well, first off, again, thanks to Ghost Style 'Skullface' project, i went researching for some "material" and bump into Eyebeam web page. Eyebeam is a art and technology center tht provides a fertile context and tools for digital research and experimentation (more details, visit www.eyebeam.org, and you'll find many interesting discovery!). So, from Eyebeam, i found out bout Blip Fest 2007! i was so excited, and wahlah! i ended up there on Friday enjoying Chiptune Music!!! WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE! [do wanna apologize for not posting up the event schedule for fellow New Yorkers to check it out...i was really booked with work and personal issue...sorry...but please do keep an eye out for next year Blip Fest! must experience it!] also, visit the Blip Fest site (www.blipfestival.org) for more info and some photos and videos of last year festival! (2006 was the first Blip Fest)
anybody who LOVE video games, consoles, tech music, engineering...this is a must 'catch'! oh but these are the old bitmap video games, consoles, sound tht i'm refering. not the new 'reality like' games on PSP or Wii. this is OLD SCHOOL!!!!! :D
i'm so impress with these group of artist–8bitpeoples, thinking of using consoles and other tech engineering or chips from old consoles to creat music! really am dumbstruck by each artist's performance. there are even artist for visuals on the big pixels screen tht i fall in love with! to find out more about these creative, smart, and very eco aware, or super video game addict ppl/artist, visit www.8bitpeoples.com, or their MySpace page. you can find these creative Chiptune Music artists on the site with music available for download–FREE! (what more to ask for?) LOL!!!! sorry if i'm advertising too much. but i really wanna share these great tune with everyone!!!!!
alright enough blabbing. this is definitely going to be a VERY long blog, even though i cut down to 4 favorite artist from many of them in Blip Fest 2007. another concert going on tonight from 6pm. it's the closing night. so, if anyone manage to catch this blog in time (i doubt it), do go check it out! it's at Eyebeam, 540, West 21st Street (between 10 - 11 Ave).

Nullsleep
Nullsleep is Jeremiah Johnson. Nullsleep uses Game Boys and NES consoles to create conceptually unique music that blends subversive hardware hacking with powerful melodic pop. In 1999, together with friend Mike Hanlon from Detroit, he co-founded the 8bitpeoples: a collective of artists interested in the audio/video aesthetics of early computers and videogames. Since then, Nullsleep has released a number of recordings through 8bitpeoples, his most recent work focusing on music created with the Nintendo Game Boy and Nintendo Entertainment System platforms. His constant push for new ways to force the most out of yesterday's machines and the unparalleled romantic chiptune intensity embodied in his music have gained him notice worldwide. Whether thrashing away on a keyboard hooked up to a Game Boy like an electric guitar or rocking hacked NES cartridges, Nullsleep consistently demonstrates his passion for pushing the limits of both the hardware and the heart.
Based in New York City, Nullsleep has performed extensively throughout North America, Europe and Asia, including the 20-date International Chiptune Resistance world tour in 2006.

foo/s: this guy is EVERYTHING. musician, performer, smart (Graduate from Colombia Uni) and CUTE! hahahaha! he made the crowd DANCE! started the crowd surfing for the day, at a chiptune music concert!!! hahaha! he is BIT-TASTIC!!! ppl, go download his album from his MySpace page. worth it! (maybe just me, but anyone who's video game lover/addict, MUST give it a try!)
i actually saw him live once at a friend's party. he was good...but never know he is this famous! man i love discovering new things!!!!!
Anamanaguchi
Anamanaguchi combines the raw, electronic tones of the NES sound chip with driving, melodic guitars in an indie rock/powerpop fashion. NYU Music Technology student, Peter Berkman began experimenting with the console in late 2003, swapping songs with friends from his hometown. Looking for a way to perform the 8-bit songs live, he got together a band including bassist James DeVito from New York, and Spencer Casey and Chalie Hankin from Baltimore to play guitar and drums (respectively) along with the NES. Since then, they have been very active playing PulseWave concerts in New York and various shows on the east coast.

Bubblyfish
Hae-Young Kim relocated to the US from Korea in 1992. With a background in classical piano, she explores the territory of sounds and cultural representation. Currently, under the name Bubblyfish, she has been creating "lo-fi" 8-bit sound works and minimal electronic compositions. Hae-Young has worked as composer, sound designer, and audio engineer. Her work has been presented in various art venues, clubs, festivals, and galleriies including The American Museum of the Moving Image, Eyebeam, New Museum Lincoln Center Walter Reed Theater, and also heard on "Spinning On Air", WNYC Radio as well as Spongefork Radio on the web.

foo/s: she is so so TALENTED! she's way cool performing with her Gameboy consoles on stage. so so bad tht i lost my camera...i can't express the scene where she play behind the pixels screen at Blip Fest 2007. it looks like she shines. haha!!
you can differentiate her from her minimal approach with more higher pitch sound, in comparison with Anamanaguchi and Nullsleep whom are powerful/noisier. i can hear her tune as the 'female' sound. (just me) *KUDOS KUDOS*
Bit Shifter
Bit Shifter explores high-energy, low-bit music composed and performed on a Nintendo Game Boy. The result is an unapologetically fun foray into an evocative and distinctive soundset traditionally reserved for video game sound effects and background music, all done on a console generally misperceived as being technically limited. Made possbile by Olive Wittchow and Johan Kotlinski's respective home-brew Game Boy musicmaking programs Nanoloop and Little Sound DJ, Bit Shifter's music adopts and subverts the playfulness inherent in the familiar Game Boy soundset, repurposing it into the service of novel idioms.
