Modeling legend and Film star Bo Derek while speaking on CNN's Larry King Live recently about her activism against the trafficking in endangered wildlife parts mentioned that she has asked Hong Kong film star Jackie Chan for aid in publicizing the plight of sharks in China.
Derek joined the fight after a visit to the Galapagos Islands off of South America. she said of her trip: ''It made me realize that even the most remote wilderness is now touched by the global economy - in this case, the demand for products derived from protected wildlife." As many as 10,000 sharks off the Galapagos have been killed for their fins, which are used to make shark-fin soup, popular in Chinese cuisine.
Derek said that with the help of Jackie Chan and assistance from Chinese media, at least 1/2 of Mainland China's 1+ billion population can be warned of the damage of shark fin harvesting.
