Peter Chan Praises Jet Li's Dramatic Abilities

Peter Chan's new film 'Warlords' starring Jet Li, Andy Lau and Takeshi Kaneshiro marks his first attempt at a major epic historical martial arts action film, so its not unexpected that he learned many new things in the process of making the film,  but in an interview, he said the biggest surprise he had through the course of the project was discovering how good of a dramatic actor Jet Li was. 

Chan is most famous for dramas centering around romance,  his directorial credits include Foreign Oscar nominee 'Perhaps Love', 'He's a Woman, She's a Man' and 'Comrades, Almost a Love Story'.  Li has made over 35 films, all of which capitalize on his background as a 5-time martial arts champion in China.  Although many of his films have had high drama and emotional scenes,  it was a surprise to Chan to see Li's ability to perform on the set of Warlords.

Chan is quoted as saying: "Not to be unfair to the two other actors, but the biggest surprise was Jet Li, I haven't seen Li handle so much drama in a movie. You can see from clips of the movie that he portrays many emotional scenes very seriously, very effectively."
