Amelie has her first violin lesson today; as I expected, she cried after the lesson, but not because she's afraid, she said she's hungry!  I always wonder maybe she's too small to learn violin now.  We went to HK to buy the 1/16 violin cos I can't find one in SZ, and only when we went to the 3rd shops in TuenMun, we found the smallest violin.  I almost gaveup hope that we can find one, so I asked Amelie, maybe when she grows older than she can learn violin, BUT she insisted to learn, I have no idea.  I asked her to learn piano, she said NO.....why?  I can't understand what a child is thinking.  Usually, child starts to learn violin at age 5/6.  But on the other hand, I think violin is good for her to learn, cos we need to travel a lot, moving one country to another, and so it's more convenient to "travel" than piano, and she's the only child, so I told her violin will be your best friend cos when you're sad and lonely, you can play violin.

Hopefully she can continue the violin lesson, the teacher looks young and good, and it's a one by one lesson.  For ballet, I think it's better to start when she's older.  I found a school in HK- TuenMun,  but I'm really lazy to travel to HK every weekend, and her father is worried her legs will not look good as to start to dance so early.  So I told her if she can continue to learn violin for a while, maybe I'll send her to learn ballet.

I think to be a mother is really not an easy job!

i never could play any string instruments, i'd just tear my skin on my fingers...>,< so i only played the piano when i was little after seeing my cousin play...
then i told my mum i wanted to get some proper lessons when i was 8 years old...but schoolwork was heavy so i stopped when i was 11...but i still played it, until my other cousin took the piano away...:( now i wanna buy myself a keyboard for my upcoming birthday!

oh wow, such determination from little amelie! hahaha...

hmmm. well, i just know that the violin produces wry neck sometimes (from the constant positioning of the head/ neck). but it's good that she actually wants to LEARN something!...

Amelie may be a bit too young to learn violin, as her bones are young and body's small, i dono if the smallest violin will fit her but may be too heavy on her shoulder?

Mom told me that when i was 2, i wanted to learn to play the piano.  She brought me to the teacher, and after the 1st lesson the teacher told her to let me learn later as i still couldn't recognize the alphabets, let alone knowing where's C, D, E keys...  i was very upset but yea i end up learning again at 9.  Before that i was in choir, so it was relevant training.

You just gotta do what you think is better/best for your child. I hope the violin didn't cost too much, in case she decides she doesn't want to continue. Kids are so fickle!

My girl wanted to learn flute and join the school band. We let her do that (after she stopped piano after 5 years). it's a good thing we rented the instrument bc she doesn't want to do it anymore. I already kinda knew she wouldn't stick with it. She doesn't stick to things that are hard to do. Grr.

Don't forget an important element of child development and that is, PLAY.  Child psychologist recommends that children play for proper emotional, social and intellectual development.

Totally agreed. Mother is not an easy job! Glad Amelie is interested in learning violin. Think it's better this way rather than forcing a child to do something. Children in HK have so much pressure from parents nowadays. Look forward to hearing Amelie's performance! ^_^
