This was an exciting weekend in martial arts! We had our bi-monthly testing.
Wow! Friday night I took a carload of people and sparring gear about 45 miles from 'home' for the first round of testing.
    COLD! RAIN!
We were in a gym. My feet were so cold!!

There were several first timers testing! It's so fun to watch the little kids. Most of those who tested this weekend did well. There are always a few that get out there and forget everything they ever learned! blink.gif
Friday night we tested about 50 students. White, Yellow, Green, Blue, and Red belts.
Each rank goes through forms and kicks. Adults do 'One Step Fighting' which is technique training. High ranks do Self Defense. Yellow belts do what we call Exchange Fighting which is training for sparring. They just take turns instead of free sparring. Green belt and above get to free spar!
With feet so cold I could barely feel them - I got to spar!
I think things went well considering how cold it was. My sparring was near the end and there were only a few more to spar and testing was finished.
There were 6 who promoted to Brown belt. Which is exciting because the Brown and Black belts make a large circle and Master Han (Grandmaster Han's son) speaks to each new brown belt and tides their belt on. (Or Black belt) They then get to go around and shake hands (or hug) each of the Black belts in the circle. It's actually a very big deal. At this point they become true 'high ranks' and are part of the community of instructors.

Saturday testing was held just down the road from me! Yeah for me!
There were about 50 testing. White to Black belts! We had two promote to Black belt and one promoted to 3rd Dan. (3 stripes on his black belt)

After testing, both Friday night and Saturday a large group of us went out to eat. That's a lot of fun because of the comradery and friendships that are made and strengthened in such a relaxed atmosphere. It's not about the food - especially at Denny's or some of the other places we've landed! lmao.gif
I got home at about 1:30am after Friday's testing! Testing started at 7pm and ended around 10:30. Then we had to clean up the gym and be out by 11pm.
Testing on Saturday started at noon. We had Advanced Training at 11am! Master Han kicked our butts for an hour! It was GREAT! cool.gif

Oh - Sparring Saturday! Once everything was all over and we were at the restaurant, I kept noticing that my toe hurt on my left foot. I didn't worry about it much, I figured it was just because I'd been so cold and now with my socks and shoes on my toes just hurt.... well I was wrong. Once I got home and took off my shoes, this is what I found...

    I think it's broke. lmao.gif

I wasn't able to take any pictures because I was on the panel at both testings. Once someone posts pictures, I'll share.

I called my Doc- spoke to the nurse.  She said that with toes, just try to deep off it or if unable- Be Careful!
She mentioned taping the toe to the adjacent toe to keep it in the correct position helps, but there isn't much else to do for a little hurt toe.
My Doc- in the background laughing about my little toe and asked if I wanted him to give me a shot! A shot? For a broken toe? Doc- yeah it'll make you forget the toe for a minute anyway!  *eyeroll*

    Mother hen here.....

When I fractured my wrist in a car accident, just a hairline fracture, I took off the splint and sling almost immediately.  That was 12 years ago.  My wrist aches every time I use it a lot, or when the weather's bad, or when I twist it.  Is there a good way to splint a toe so that it heals, properly, for the right length of time?  As you get older, bones don't age as easily as they did when we were .......

Not going to the Doc, just walk easy for a few days.  Wont be kicking any pads this week!
It only hurts when I mess with it! LOL

My M/A family has been there for me when it really counts, even the people from out of state.  More so than my church!

Ow.....ow....ow.....are you gonna straighten out that piddy or is the doctor going to?

It's great to have the support of friends!  With all of you being in martial arts together, I think you share more of the ups and downs.

    aww- thanks!
Well- My toe doesn't hurt too bad, but its quite dark.  It looks a bit like the color of a plum today. :)

My martial arts 'buddies' are an extension to my family.  It's amazing how much I will put myself through and the obstacles I overcome with their support.
That's one of the things Master Han kept bringing up over the weekend, the fact that our system is grounded on good principles and the members are truly unique in this attitude.  I've been helped through some tough times and have been there for others many times.
One of my instructors deems bruises as colorful badges of honor! LOL
