Being in a new city/country where you don’t really speak the language can be mad frustrating, but for me, it’s been insanely hillarious. I’ve been laughing (at myself) at least once a day, and that feels good - to just be amused and entertained with day to day shit.

    So far, I have…

    - Asked a waiter to pay for my dinner (instead of asking for the bill)

    - Asked a bus driver, “does this go to my house?” instead of asking if it goes to my neighborhood; As if the driver knew where I lived.

    - Asked a bus driver, “is this the subway?” instead of asking if it goes to the subway

    - Hopped into a taxi and said, “I’m going to friend’s address but I don’t know what the address is” instead of saying “… but i don’t know where it is.”

    - Used the word “cock” instead of “magazine” about 3 times in a conversation with an editor/potential client (”jahp-jee” = magazine, “jah-jee” = cock; “I know about your cock. I have a friend who works at your cock in New York”)

    - Dropped my chopsticks on the floor at a restaurant and then asked for “three” chopsticks instead of “a new pair” (”seh-geh” = three, “seh-guh” = new)

    - Asked a store clerk to “memorize” the total instead of “write it down.” (I couldn’t count when i first got here, so i would ask people to write down what i owed - “memorize” and “write down” don’t sound anything alike, i just kinda flubbed that one).
