i spent today sitting in a chair for 4 hours, staring at myself in a mirror, listening to really bad, hyper aggressive music. True, I do this everyday, but what made today different and worth writing about was that it was at a tattoo parlor. I sat for phase 2 of my "half sleeve" (phase 1 was complete back in May but I've been waiting to get back to NYC to go for my second appointment). Phase 3 (final sitting) will be in two weeks, so no pictures til then. It's bad luck to show people your tattoo before it's finished (I just made that up). This is my seventh (or is it eighth?) tattoo and I yet, I always act surprised when the needle hits and it hurts...
I get tattoos whenever I open or close a chapter in my life, when I want to commemorate a moment or event, when I experience something traumatic... but most importantly, I get tattoos because I have the physique of a 9 year old girl and so when I go to the beach, I need something to make me look a little tough when I take my shirt off. I'm not sure if this has worked for me or if people are looking at me thinking, "why is that 9 year old girl topless? and why's she have so many tattoos?"
Maybe I'll be in a sharing mood later this week and post some sneak peak pics of what's done so far when it heals up a bit (this is why blogs are weird; you have to assume that people actually give a shit).
... on that note, I will leave you with another brilliant haiku:
Steve Guttenberg rules
He made great movies
Where is that dude now?
