Agree with Marie... I stayed at Royal Plaza last time and it was great!! Another hotel is Prudential Hotel on Nathan Road. the rooms are spacious... and right on top of the MTR station... :)

    Describe modest budget.

I got a great deal on Travelocity when I combined airfare and hotel.  I got to stay at a new 5-star hotel in Mongkok (yeah, you read that right!) for about $100 a night for a single.  The room was large and had a refrigerator, microwave, stovetop and electric tea kettle.  It was attached to a mall with a lot of inexpensive food options, and then there is all of Mongkok at your feet for more cheap eats.  The Eastern Rail Line has a station in the mall and the Mongkok station on the red line is a mere 10 minutes walk away.  The hotel was the Royal Plaza in Mongkok.  Everyone there, even the cleaning staff, spoke English.
