So everyone has their nerdy moments right? Like definite moments whether its music or movies or video games or pictures or people or something! Right? Well I hope so haha.
Anyway, my big nerdom as of late is this guy:
Mega Man! haha.
Mega Man was like THE character of my childhood when it came to video games. I mean I grew up playing an NES when it was first released in 88-89', and yea I had Super Mario Bros and Duck Hunt, which was classic of course, but nothing compared to when I laid eyes on and played Mega Man 3. From then on, thats all I wanted to be. I wore a big blue football helmet and shot nerf guns at stuff and kept pretending to slide on ANYTHING (which involved alot of scraped legs, mind you haha) and pretending I was running, shooting, and jumping my way into victory over that damn Dr. Wily and his robot masters.
[Me, in my imagination, fighting imaginary robots]
[If I had a dog made out of metal, I would name him Rush too. Actually, that's what I'm probably going to name my first dog, hahaha. Too bad he doesn't have a jetpack and I can't ride him haha]
From that point on, I've bought just about every classic Mega Man game and its X series counterparts on various systems over the years (and still own the originals mind you).
But alas, classic side scrolling stuff like that is all a thing of the past. Old glory days that were just meant to be fun times remembered. Until they released THIS on the Wii this past week:
Then my head just basically exploded. I mean I heard about it loosely, but havent put much thought into seeing whats it about just yet. Then I saw the trailer above and I was like !!! haha. Needless to say, I've been playing like a madman.
It's very, very epic in every fashion imaginable, as the same team that worked on Mega Man 2 (which is considered to be the best one amongst many fans) basically created a game from the ground up in 8 Bit form as a testament to bring solid, old fashioned yet simple and challenging games back on the market. And really, it plays just like any other Mega Man game. Thats the best part. Any awesome memory you have of playing Mega Man is put back again playing this game and it's AWESOME. Plus theres all this downloadable content like new stages and items and people to play as.
And thats the best part! downloadable! for $10 bucks you basically have a game thats more well made than most games out on the market now! Especially if your a fan of the old school stuff like me, I would say $10 bucks is a steal.
Besides, I guess my infatuation with Mega Man in general was the fact besides having AWESOME catchy music that steals my soul haha, it was always probably one of the most frustratingly challenging games that really tested me and yet was still so much fun to play. Like one of those good books you read or movies you watch that you can't stop watching or reading and no matter how long you go away from it, you can always come back and it'll feel the same. Always.
In today's world, its really hard to see so games being made that simple, or hell, that solidly. Too much focus now on interaction or pizazz or crazy ass graphics. I mean its nice and all, but what happened to creativity and simplicity? Not saying that the market doesn't have these types of games, but definitely it's been flooded more by games that just go "oh man HD? you bet! BUY ME NOW!" and then you go through it while having the computer tell you how to get to step a to b to c and baby sitting you along the way or just being way too damn talky just to tell you the controls.
Whatever happened to pressing a to jump and b to shoot? hahaha. Or you know, not knowing much but the essentials and figuring out for yourself? Too bad I feel society has just been too simplified and its rare for most people to use their minds to figure out stuff.
Which is always why I'm a fan of Mega Man games. They're sometimes goddamn impossible and I LOVE them for that fact. Simply cuz I really gotta try to be smarter than the level and figure out how to solve the problem with whatever I have. To me, thats always the best experience cuz nothing will ever take that away from you once you accomplish it. It's like life, really. Well save for blowing up robots haha.
Anyway enough of my crazy rant. If you have a Wii and have the patience for such a game, I highly suggest dropping the $10 bucks. It's also available now on ps3 on the PSNetwork and Xbox Live on Oct. 10th. Now back to heaven.
Oh... I never played Mega Man before... but it looks FUN! I still want to play the classic Super Mario Bros. hahaa... =D someday I'm gonna get these classic games on the Wii.. hahaa...
the classic games has the music that gets stuck in your head for a long time... hahaa..
