I was just listening to the old ipod which carriers the bulk of my music library and while listening to some of my favorites, Mozart's Queen of the Night aria popped up. If you've ever gone out with rottendoubt, then you've undoubtedly heard the song. I've never seen the Magic Flute in a live show, but have been lucky enough to catch Ruth Ann Swenson in The Marriage of Figaro 2 seasons ago, and Frederica von Stade in Cosi Fan Tutte. This past season the SF Opera also had Don Giovanni, but I was so busy (and it's also a little more serious whereas the former 2 are comedies) so I gave my ticket to a friend. But the Magic Flute -- particularly the Queen of the Night aria -- is special because it contains some of the highest sung notes of any repertoire and thus allows sopranos to show off their vocal range (or lack of it..).
damn...that kid couldn't look more disinterested when he finished singing..... just wait till he hits puberty.... won't be hitting those high notes much longer :P
