Played a gig at the Bubble Lounge in San Francisco on Friday night with Ed Chow. My friend Rick Rivera was on drums. He sounded amazing and really pulled the set together. A while back I was traveling and bought an upright electric bass. It played different than the acoustic bass and I had a different style on it which I miss. Recently I've been able to get that feel more on the acoustic bass which is exciting.
I started playing with two new projects. One is with Berkeley pianist Valerie Mih (http://www.circulardreaming.com) and the other is with some guys who graduated from the music conservatory. I thought they'd be geeks, but they're super cool - look like they're out of a wild west saloon, tattoos and mustaches, great musicians. We'll be putting together a new group and start playing this summer.
My good friend Abel Mouton has changed the name of his project from Abel Mouton and the Tastemakers to The Seedy Naturalists. Abel and I played some shows in New York last year which went really well. I decided to move on and concentrate on jazz more, but look for new tunes from Abel and company soon with Matt Sieling on bass.
