There it is, my friends, the show that will be delivered to my home tomorrow. The Clark's Metti II leather lowheel. It's my first foray into online shoe shopping. During my last pregnancy, I broke down and cried after going to a DSW (discount shoe outlet) and feeling every size 11 pinch my foot. Yes, that's right, my foot's now a women's size 12. This is a permanent change; it's common for women to go up 1 or 2 sizes after having babies. Save for the occasional Payless cheapie, shoe stores in the US don't sell Women's 12. So, I have to order them online, which can be far more expensive.
Sixty dollars doesn't sound like much for shoes, but for me it's a lot. I grew up going ot Shoe Carnival, a gimmicky discount outlet. But now, spending a little more is a necessity. Not only are my feet longer than average, they're also flat, and need the support of a good brand like Clark's.
I also got a couple of gift cards and a little cash for my birthday last month--how better to update my work wardrobe? Get this--a Vera Wang handbag, four careeer sweaters, a career blouse, a casual sweater--all for $110.00! I don't mess around, do I?
NOW for my caeer troubles. Here's the Reader's Digest version. Six weeks ago, I was contacted for a promising corporate job. I answered questions by email; my first interview, with the man who would be my immediate boss, went swimmingly. I established a great rapport with him. A month later, I finally got called for a second interview. It was rushed getting in to interview Big Boss before he and Imm. Boss left on a business trip. Big Boss did not seem as impressed with me--seemed concerned about my lack of corporate marketing experience. Then again, he could have been distracted by the trip. I tried my best to leverage the experience I do have. I also meet with 2 women I would be working with--great rapport with them. Wish I could have talked to them before intimidating Big Boss!
I bite my nails and wait. Call HR last week. HR lady says they'll make a decision by the end of this coming week (end of October). I debate in my mind....should I do something else? Should I contact the Imm. Boss and share some research I've done, to show him I'm the right person?
Then the KICKER. I got an update email from my jobs website today. The position I'm a final candidate for has been reposted! They have not officially turned me down yet, but they're looking for that mythical perfect candidate. I think I know what the problem is. They KNOW I can write, but they think I don't have enough experience to write for corporate marketing.
Now, I am really tempted to write to Imm. Boss, the one I have the best rapport with. First, I want him to know that I noticed the position had been reposted. Then I want to assure him that if he hires me, I will immerse myself in the corporate culture and learn how to write for that audience. I have a proven track record of learning new things on the job. I am up for the challenge.
I know I am taking a risk here. If I'm unlucky, I'll look pushy. If I'm lucky, Imm. Boss will admire my pluck and recommend me to Big Boss, the one who seems nervous about my lack of experience.
I mean, I know there are other jobs out there, but I really want this one! And I'm sick of being broke and looking.
Any thoughts, my friends?
