Movie:

Astronaut Farmer (2007)

I had heard good things about this one and being a spaceflight buff (NASA-buff?) I thought a movie about a farmer trying to make his own space capsule+rocket in his barn would be kind of cool, even if it wasn't 100% believable or accurate. I was really disappointed with this movie, it really was a STEAMING PILE.

He even acts like a nut, in case there was any doubt...

Rather than focus on ANY of the details or process behind how this could be even slightly possible (there are REAL people who do launch homemade rockets, and start up companies doing orbiter concepts... but no mention in this movie), instead it tells a rambling, cliche-ridden story of a Texas farmer trying to keep his ranch from being foreclosed, and trying to get his rocket to fly despite those evil, evil bureaucrats at the FAA and their evil G-men henchmen, who want to keep the American people down...

What is this BS? they just contrive some confrontation for no reason to introduce pointless negative protagonists - their whole reason for existence is to stop him from buying rocket fuel, and then at the last minute the farmer is like 'hey, wait, i can make my own! I happen to have everything already in my barn!' LAME...

This one scores extra low for being high on BS 'feel good the little-guy vs the man' Americana crap - 2/10!

oh cool. its not a bad movie (not THE best though! 'Protege' is better!) ;-)
