New DSi from Nintendo!

Japanese video game giant Nintendo unveils the company's new portable video game console, the "DSi", equipped with a 3.25-inch LCD display and 300,000-pixel digital camera on its handheld body, at the annunal Nintendo conference in Tokyo on October 2, 2008. The dual-screen machine will go on sale in Japan from November 1, followed by launches in overseas markets some time next year. Nintendo adds camera, music playback to DS

Can these additions stave off competition from the iPhone and the PSP?

I actually don't hardly use my DS now that I have my iPhone 3G... i have found that now that I /can/ check my email and/or surf the web almost anywhere, I generally do quite a lot. :-P

also the 480x320 screen of the iPhone is good for watching movies and TV (I've almost caught up on my movie watching...)

But this new DSi seems like a necessary step to keep competitive. I'm not sure if the camera is that important, but making the device more into a multimedia platform (something you could already do with the R4 card actually) lets it keep up with what its competition is offering. Maybe they'll develop some interesting 'eyeToy' like games that use the camera...

I'm surprised they didn't put some motion sensing capability into it though, considering thats the big selling point of the iPhone for games and what makes the Wii so unique. Maybe its in there they just haven't revealed it yet... :-P

Hmm, just curious. Do you buy a lot of these electronics once they come up with more features? Or are you just interested in them, and only buy when what you've got is practically useless?

DAMN IT....Kinda quick to announce and release. I've already got like 3 ds...I need another now~~>??? Same goes for the new psp model coming out with built in skype... I've got 3 of them and now another one!?!?!?Holy crapola. I'm sure Nintendo will announce the wii HD....real soon.

joanne - if it makes you feel better, the new one won't hit europe before christmas, I'm pretty sure, and it will cost 50% more...

that said, if you get an 'R4' card, you can get the media player capabilities right now.... plus some other capabilities. :-P

oh great, I've only just bought my DS a couple of months back! now a newer version is out...Oh I am so behind in times!
