Thursday night we had a fancy banquet for our conference:
    木曜日晩会議の宴会した:

    Open Bar!

They had a variety of performers lined up,  in this case two guys on stilts.

They also had some indian dancers do a show as the first courses were served...

They had two really cool performances,  first was a snake charmer guy:
    とても面白出演者が二人が居た。初めて蛇遣い !

First he did some gags with some non poisonous snake, then he took off the turbin and did some dangerous stuff with a king cobra.

    Yikes!

And he had an albino python (from California), he let people take pictures with it.

The other cool performance was this guy who did Sichuan Opera's 'Face Changing' (變臉):
    次は四川劇の変顔(變臉)先生!

Obviously its hard to get the delights of face changing in a still picture, so you'll have to watch the video... 。。

I put together the snake charmer and the 'face changer' into one video clip, take a look: それからビデオ見てください!

    Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-W0aG_sSrB0

I'm sure you guys would be mad if i didn't include some pictures of the food.  They had two types of tables, one for Indian vegetarian and one for Chinese food. unfortunately most of the Chinese food had seafood in it.  including:

Shark Fin Soup.  yikes!  i refused to eat it. It's bad!

OK,  I got more Singapore pics coming... patience! ;-)

Face changing is an absolutely amazing art. I have an interest in Chinese Opera, sadly coupled with very little knowledge but I'd seen info & vids on this before. Here are a couple of cool pics of an opera set from my blog, if you care to see them. Or even if ya don't, here's the link anyway haha.

It's nice to know how much you care for the ecosystem, it's a good philosophy you have.

thats a bad sign if he is letting his in-laws push him around like that...

no one has sympathy for the sharks.  if it were kitten paws that were harvested the same way, delicious or not you'd feel differently....

    cool pics!

what?! i LOVE shark fin soup... you can spare me the "talk" though. i've heard it many times before. one of my friends' husband refused to have it at their wedding banquet... that is, until the in-laws insisted to have it...

yeah, the music wasn't exactly traditional either!

snake charmer guy - i think in India they are cracking down on them,  but this guy was doing more of a non-exploitative show for tourists, he said he ordered his snake from California, not caught it out of the wild...and no flute at least!

open bar! hehe... too bad u don't drink! hee hee...

so u were protecting our undersea eco-diversity! hehe... how about the indian snake charmers! i thought those were extint already as wildlife protections laws and people are also against them i believe  ;)

what music and body movements was the sichuan mask changer doing?!  that should be banned too! ;) for the preservation of tradition!

That's some interesting entertainment for a conference dinner.  I'm scared of that albino snake.  Did you have your picture taken with it?

JRS:  well i don't like most seafood anyway,  but in this case its not because of the taste.

Generally my philosophy is that anything hunted from the wild is not something people should be eating in the modern world.  The impact on the ecosystem is too great.

if it was 'farmed' shark-fin soup from a humanely run place, that would be a different story, but especially since i am getting so into scuba diving, I want to protect our undersea eco-diversity!
