Looking for Volunteer Dancers for Photographic Dance Project

we're looking for volunteer dancers to collaborate with us on a new round of our ongoing art project "Bodies in Motion, Bodies at Rest", which we will be shooting during the next 6 months

the project involves using site specific dance to give context to various off-the-beaten track HK locations

I'm interested in all styles/genres of dance as long as we can make it connect with the location.

the project is unpaid, it's an Art Project, however Collaborators will be given copies of the images which they can use for their own promotional sites.

you can get an idea of the project from my alivenotdead site here

i hope you can get over to see it.

on other matters, the christmas and new year lull has finally given me chance to go through some of the production shots we amassed for "Bodies in Motion", so i'll doing a new blog entry very soon with some behind the scenes shots from various rounds of the exhibition.

Finally it's about time a gave out a few thanks, i want to thank all the dancers who've given up their time and immeasurable skills to contribute to this project. Also my staff at Blow Up and all our contributor crew. I'd also like to thank the people at Swire for giving us their wonderful space at ArtisTree to stage the exhibition. Swire showed us enormous support when few others would, so i'm very appreciative of them, and of course Edge for allowing us to continue the exhibition.

Incidentally the "Bodies in Motion" project will be continuing, so if there are any dancers out there on AnD who want to pursue an artistic collaboration please get in touch.

    Happy New Year

  • Tsang Tai Uk : round 6 of the Blow Up Dance/HK Project

    2009-03-04 6:58PM / 標準BLOG

For our first Blog entry we thought we'd share with you some of the background to the latest round our  Dance/HK art project.  This one was shot in Tsang Tai Uk a Hakka walled village near Sha Tin

The village is really well maintained and the village head,  Mr Tsang Kin Tim was very accommodating to us. after the recce we selected the main central courtyard as being the best spot for the shoot.

we'd already selected our dancer for this project , Joanne Chow Hiu Man an experienced Chinese Traditional dancer who trained at the APA. We wanted to do something connected with the long sleeve dance. so enlisted Crystie Li to design a contemporary dress to fit the occasion.

next step was rehearsal time, this we did on Blow Up's roof at Tung Kin. how would Joanne look, what's the best movement, would the dress and especially the sleeves work?

Plenty of food for thought after the test and modifications soon follow........

a week later we're off to the shoot, it's a glorious winter morning with bright sunshine which of course doesn't get down into the courtyard, fortunately Alan has the powerpacks and lights in tow. here's how it looked from behind the scenes..........

Gareth tries to look knowledgeable when discussing chinese dance with Joanne

and here's how it looked through the camera

    cheers to all the crew

    Joanne Cheung : Producer
    Liz Mok : Operator/Retoucher
    Alan Tam : Lighting
    Eliud Kwan : Second Asst
    Crystie Li : Styling
    Lisa Chan : Hair & Make-up
    and of course our dancer
    Joanne Chow
