The trick to taking pictures is knowing your camera, whatever type.  

I didn't take any pictures for 20 years: none, nada,  That entire time, I didn't even own a camera.  Recently I bought my first digital camera, nothing fancy, just a Sony Sureshot point and shoot with a few "modes" that I can select.  Every one of the pictures I posted on my Christmas blog I took with that camera, as well as the fall pictures and my two trips over the summer.  Sure, I could have had more flexibility with a fancier camera, but then I would have spent a lot more time monkeying with the camera and a lot less time enjoying what inspired me to want to take pictures in the first place.  I am most assuredly NOT a photographer, not like many artists and fan photographers here on AnD.  Sure, it is fun to capture an artistically "interesting" picture from time to time, but that is not my main motivation for taking pictures right now.  If I wanted to get more serious about the art of photography, then, and only then, would I invest the money in a better camera and the time in mastering everything that better camera could do.  Its all in knowing what you want.
