  • LOVE VS.CAREER

I've had this discussion with my girlfriends over and over again about love vs. career or can you really have both?

honestly... such a crappy topic... and each time.. all of us end up a little sad.  I'm not sure what everyone else believes, but i honestly am not sure if its possible to have both as a female.  I know I know most women now a days work when they're married and are able to have a family, but just for me personally I run around like crazy and i travel the world, and yah.. i've been in relationships, but to be honest they have always been secondary to my career and to me attempting to achieve my dream.

Every guy wants this idea of a trophy wife, and a girl they can show off to their friends yada yada... so of course in the beginning everyone is always cool with what you do, but after awhile people really get their emotions involved and all of a sudden everything changes.  Usually at this point I'm running around not really too concerned about the other persons emotions, because i'm so caught up with doing my own thing and trying to achieve my goals, so for me... i'm just not quite sure if i'll ever be able to have both, unless i stop.

But even when i talk to my other girlfriends who are also very into their careers, they also feel the same way.  If youre passionate about what you do.. and you know what you want to achieve, its more then likely going to consume you life... at least that's how it is for me.... how the heck are you suppose to juggle being a great significant other and possibly have a family one day.. I just dont see how you can be great in all of those things... I can imagine doing decent... but I think the way I think is just so black and white, and if i can't be the best at something, or at least try to be the best, i rather not even do it.

so.. end of the day... if you had!!! to chose.  Either love or career? and no you cant have both... which would it be? honestly......

    xoxo,

I agree with Alfred, work is an important part of life, but I think a need that can be fulfilled in many different ways. We might love what we are doing, but there are probably a lot of jobs/activities which will fulfill that need as well. I think that Love/Companionship is primary. It's not something you can get through other means. Basically you have to balance love/work/life as I see those as 3 separate but interconnected things. Getting older certainly puts things in perspective though, so yeah, enjoy travel and carefree living while you can! :)

Nice! I like how you write a pretty thought provoking article which gets me thinking.. then at the end you're like.. ps.... xoxo BAM! Helen Su Hotness Picture! haha

However, the answer to your question is this-
Love is the optimal choice if you can ONLY chose 1 b/c humans by nature seek companionship and at the end of the day (im talkin end of the day when ur ass be old days) u will regret giving up the "love of ur life" for a successful career/money.

The solution to having both is to set a definitive goal of what you want (written down) and hustle like crazy to achieve that while your still young and then you can have both!  muahah

    Thoughts?

"i'm just not quite sure if i'll ever be able to have both, unless i stop."

Helen, this line tells me that you're forgetting just how much time you really have. You're in your early 20's, still. You're on a fast track career-wise right now. In another 7-8 years--maybe sooner--you're going to be in a GREAT place.

My g/f is a gorgeous Filipina with a daughter who's in her young teens. The other day over dinner she told me, "It sure took a long time to find you. I'm just glad I did". That one put a big smile on my face. And it was a reminder that there's so much time ahead for the two of us.

Keep in mind that you've got all the time in the world. In the meantime, just keep doing what you're doing and ENJOY everything you're doing.  And years from now, when you're settled in with the right dude and you're pulling little baby Helens off the drapes, you'll look back on this time in your life and smile at the memory of it all.

I just can't get this subject off my mind, i still think you can do both your significant other also needs to be mature enough to handle the situation. Why would you give up everything. A relationship is caring, loving, believing in your mate equally and mutual respect. Here's an example.... i know a guy who likes this girl who just happens to a model ,he just loves her so much that it's not about her being a model, it's what she showed him through the kindness of her heart and that's what attracted him to her, so it's not about her being a trophy because in the end it's about the both of them caring for each other.... who cares what other people think!! this guy also supports her where ever she appears. Now support is something you must have, with this you can juggle everything. damn somebody shut me up!!!!!!!

I don't think it's just a problem for girls, although probably more vocalized by them.  I think girls want a trophy man too, not like girls go out looking for dumpy poor guys, they usually want the good looking guys with a steady career and can afford them things.

I dunno which I'd chose, prolly love but I've given up love before so not really sure. Looking at it one way your career will only last so long, maybe a long long time, maybe not.   If it's someone you really love and care about they'll be there forever and you'd want them there forever so should be better choice right?  Yet I've still passed it up before heh so yeah no idea.

P.S. I love how honest gruponya is hehe.

You can have both, the other person in the relationship has to except that your career is important to you and both of you must have a balance in your lives. If you really look at it , it's all about happiness...i've said it before you've got to listen to your HEART!!!!!!  It tells no lies!! trust me

You CAN have both. Sounds like, though, these guys need to accept, UP FRONT, that career is your #1 choice right now and, if they don't like it, don't get attached. Time passes, life changes, priorities change and that's the time when you'll start thinking about slowing down the career train and looking at other possibilities. Live your life. Enjoy your life. Be happy! And when the definition of "happy" changes, priorities change, you readjust.

All time debate:)) Honestly, i dont know. My mom used to say 'it's natural if men want you NOW,  and it becomes a nature when nobody wants you LATER'. Bitter huh?
