I'm sure by now, the whole world has heard the gruesome reports of the stabbing and beheading that happened on a Greyhound bus in Canada. More details are slowly being released and a Chinese man has now been taken into custody and charged with the crime.
Immediately, the comments that I read in the articles turn the blame from mental illness into ugly ugly racism.
comments like this:
You know this wouldn't have happened if it were not
for Canada's lax and generous immigration laws. Could we not have found
a homegrown Canadian to deliver papers and work at McDonald's? Did we
really need to import a mainland Chinese to take a job from a Canadian
high school kid? Are we that brainwashed by the politically correct
messages of equality and inclusiveness?
I would be very worried
if I were living in Vancouver where whites are a minority, where you
can't get hired for some jobs unless you speak Cantonese, where
ruthless Asian gangs are causing mayhem and where there is a palatable
hostility in some parts of the city.
Did we really need this
sort of diversity? We had much better sense at the turn of the last
century when there were laws on the books to prevent this foreign
invasion.
I just wish people would focus on the tragedy of what happened instead of pointing fingers and spouting ugly words.
