    hi gang,

so here is a trailer for 'Ultimate Christian Wrestling' the feature doc Tara and I have been working on for the past 16 months.  we are about 99% done with shooting and now the enormous task of post production looms ahead.

the trailer was cut about a year ago and hasn't been updated since.  i feel weird showing unfinished work, so this will only be up for a short period of time.  there is about 10 seconds of black in the beginning of the clip.

    enjoy!!!

    sincerely,
    Jae-Ho

    Hi Jae-Ho,
I looked at the trailer and I think it looks really interesting. I love the way you shoot the wrestling ring, how the white ground glows in black and white. And how you intercut all those interesting different personalities. And one of the smaller details that really grabbed me was the two kids (the girl and the little boy) who get so excited about it (they're not in the same section). It's very nice that it becomes personal by the end. I'm curious to know more about the personal story that ensues in the film.
    Thanks for sharing.

It's a unique vision that the UCW have, and it's certainly a way to bring youngsters and the like into religion. I smiled seeing the little girl in the clip, I used to get worked up like she does, when I watched Big Daddy and Giant Haystacks. Sweet memories.

I like the looks of the documentary, seeing the lives of the UCW conpetitors in and out the ring. Good Luck with it, and Thankyou for sharing.

BTW, I love the still you have on here, the lights above the wrestler gives the impression of their 'saviour'. It's nicely designed.

what makes this such an interesting project is that folks will have a hard time wrapping their heads around it all.  now, with the trailer, the audience learns how these men justify it and you start to feel at ease with the whole concept....until someone gets smashed with a metal chair and we're no longer so comfortable.  nice!  haha.
keep up with the rest of the work and i definitely look forward to seeing the real deal.

oh yeah...a question about the jesus figure.  i guess they have a short sermon/testimony and put on a skit before the show, but is jesus also a wrestler?  and are there "evil" wrestlers (like the ones who flog jesus)  and "good" ones?

or......do i need to "wait till the documentary comes out" to get an answer?

Oh Jae-Ho, I am so psyched to see this already. As an artist, I totally understand the need to shape and edit, but even this year-old trailer communicates the theme well. There seems to be a conflict between two worlds that these people live in. Awesome.

BTW pics of our new baby are up on our page.
    Best, Elena

I'm really impressed and proud of you!!! *hugs*

I think it's kind of messed up to be honest, the promotion of violence in the name of G-d. I guess you can find justification for anything. You could see it in the child, the anger, the rage not normal for that age. I believe in nonviolence, especially in the world of today.

I'm curious - why the choice of b&w?

The concept of christian wrestling is a little bizarre but I figure the religious component is one way to persuade those who enjoy amateur wrestling. Religion + wrestling. Why not?

Not updated or not, this looks like it's going to be a very interesting documentary Jae-Ho(and I'll admit I didn't think I would think that based on the title hehe). I love the part with the father and son in the end of this clip. Or maybe "love" wouldn't be the right word, just seems like there's a strong and moving story there. I would definitely watch this if I ever got a chance. Good luck with post production! :) Remember to take breaks so you don't go crazy ;)
