Weekend to Weekend

I chopped off most of my locks last weekend, and I'm feelin' light and breezy from the neck upwards now... well, I haven't had a chance to do a bit of cam-whorin' yet to show off "the new do"... but when I do, you'll most definitely get to see it here at AnD!

Hmmm, actually I think I look a bit like Madonna now, when she was wearing that Orientally inspired look at one of the Award shows and performing onstage looking a bit like a Japanese doll... I can't seem to remember the title of the song now though, but yeah, the moment my hairstylist was done, the first comment out of my mouth was that it looked a bit like Madonna's "do" for that stage performance.

Word about my hairstylist... Oliver Ow at Kenaris Salon, Wheelock Place... can u sense that I enjoy promoting great talent in whatever area it comes in?? haha! Anyways, this guy has been doing my hair for the longest time... so long that he's become a family friend... I'm really comfortable with him, and trust that he knows what he's doing when I leave myself in his hands.

All I have to do is tell him what I generally have in mind, then I leave it to him, and he just runs with it... and he's got an innate sense about things, really knows what he's doing, and he's usually right about what looks great on me and what doesn't... if I ever get rich and famous, I'm bringing him all around the world with me, and to the moon and back! Are u feelin' the L-OV-E here?? :-)

Last weekend, I chilled at a friend's place somewhere in the Bukit Timah area, and it was really nice to just be able to just be, and not think too much about anything... hung out with some old friends, met some new ones... we pigged out on pizza, pasta, chicken curry with baguette bread, drowned ourselves in Coke, Green Tea, White Tea, discussed Star Wars, watched old school Battlestar Galactica, and a bunch of YouTube video clips... sounds geeky, but it was really geeky cool.

This weekend, am meeting up with more or less the same gang of folks... one of the guys is having a quasi-housewarming party type thing to show off his new pad cum "let's share the news about Celebration Japan with everyone else and make 'em jealous for NOT bein' there!!!" cum just another great excuse to get everyone together - hehheh! :-p

My pal and his wife are from Australia, and they've just moved to Singapore about 4 months ago... he's a great Star Wars fan, and needless to say, he was welcomed with open arms into our local Star Wars community here... we're like one big familia, bro!

This weekend, I'll probably be takin' some time out to just sit and chill in front of the TV... for some reason, since I watched the 2nd Hulk movie, I've been inspired to go out and rent a few more "superhero" type movies... so this weekend what I got on my coffee table in the living room is National Treasure 2 (ok, not quite a superhero movie this one, but it's adventurous, so it'll be fun to watch), The Hulk (the first hulk movie with Eric Bana), Underworld (the first movie), Underworld (the second movie), and oooh, there's one more, but I've forgotten what it is, and I'm just too freakin' lazy to get off-a my butt to go see what it is... heh! **oooh, it's that Sweeny Todd movie with Johnny Depp in it**

For some time, I got a bit sick and tired of all of these superhero/comic character based movies that seemed to be comin' out of Hollywood like it's totally runnin' out of ideas these days!! I mean, I watched the first Batman movie (with Michael Keaton and Jack Nicholson), and I watched just about all the Superman movies (I couldn't help it, my Dad likes Superman and would bring us to watch all the Superman movies as kids), and I watched the first Spiderman movie, and I love all the Aliens, Predator, Star Wars stuff that came out, even some Indie stuff like Constantine... but at some point, it did get to be a little overwhelming... I guess, sometimes, too much of a good thing isn't so good for ya.

I mean, it did seem like Hollywood was running out of ideas and had to turn to the comic book world to get "inspired"... and I felt that that was just sad... there are sooo many stories out there that are left untold... and Hollywood can't seem to find them??? Somewhat unbelievable! Then again, all these blockbuster movies, what are they really about?? It's all about the money, isn't it? It's all about how much mula you can rake in and dance around in... it's all about the numbers, how many zeroes to be added behind the heroes... but that bein' said, let's not discredit the comic book world here... there are some pretty good stories bein' told there, some pretty imaginative stuff too.

Actually, if there was a comic book inspired movie I'd like to see, it would probably be Lobo... that fraggin' bastich had me from DAY ONE!!! I have just about every single Lobo comic book that I can get my hands on... what can I say?? He just cracks me up every single time! haha! :-)

And who would I cast for the role of Lobo? Right off the top of my head, I'd say the lead singer of Metallica... for some reason, him and Lobo seem to click in my head... Metallica was one of my favourite bands, after Guns N Roses, Def Leppard, The Clash and Bon Jovi during my rock out years... these were the high school days when I hung out at Hard Rock Cafe twice a week, carved up the ramps and curbs with my skater pals the rest of the week, made my skateboard a fashion accessory at school, thought bein' a vampire would be cool, and wore a lot of black clothing... much to the chagrin of my Chinese parents, especially during the Chinese New Year... I was the skater girl hangin' out with the skater boyz, long before Avril Lavigne was ever even famous.

But hey, I have my softer side too... and a lot of the girliness seems to have re-surfaced once I got over all of that teenage angst... in typical girly fashion, I rented "The Leap Years" and "Definitely Maybe" just a few nights ago... chick flicks.

"The Leap Years" was really good!!! I had wanted to go watch it in the cinema, but work got the better of me and I missed it, so it's great that I could rent it and finally get to see what it was all about. Wong Li Lin is in this movie, so is Joan Chen... some very strong women here! And this movie certainly didn't disappoint, it left me in tears... pass the Kleenex, won't u?? **sniffles**

Actually, I enjoyed "The Leap Years" so much, I think I might write a review about it soon... hmmm, shall I? shall I?

I enjoyed "Definitely Maybe" too... I like the way the story was constructed and relayed to the movie audience... this one left me guessing till the end... very clever.

Anyways folks, I'm just about runnin' out of steam here... wanna just dive into the living room sofa and start watching my first movie for the weekend... so guess I'll catch up with y'all again when this weekend is thru', or whenever I get inspired again... whichever comes first.
