BANKSY PET SHOP.

I recently went over to check out the Bansky exhibition "Village Pet Store and Charcoal Grill". Conceptually, Bansky is killing it here. Once you figure you have him pegged as the "stencil" and "rat" guy...he comes at us with this animatronic exhibition. No signs of graffiti or vandalism anywhere. I will say that I'm not so impressed with the subject matter. It feels sort of like a college senior art project...not in execution (which is top notch), but in theme. I don't know...it's art. I can't articulate my opinion here properly. It's just that when I see other Banksy pieces, I think "Wow...Genius." But when I saw this, it didn't hit me like that. I might be subliminally factoring in the cost of renting this prime retail spot on 7th Avenue in the West Village and the expense of these robots...and maybe that's tainting the energy I used to associate with Banksy? I dunno...I still greatly respect him. Regardless, you should go check it out with your own two eyes.
先日Banksyの展示会、「Village Pet Store and Charcoal Grill (町のペットショップとチャコールグリル）」をチェックしに行きました。コンセプト的には、凄かった。「ステンシル」とか「ねずみ」の人だって思っていたら。。。今回はアニマトロニクスの展示ときました。グラフィティーや落書きなどの破壊行為は一切なし。でも、実際の内容にはちょっとがっかりでした。少し大学生のアートプロジェクトのようで。。。製作面ではすばらしいと思いますが、テーマがいまいち。分からない。。。アートだから。ここではちゃんと意見を言葉に出来ません。他のBanksyの作品を見ると、「おぉ、天才」って思うんです。でも、ここでは、そのような衝撃はありませんでした。無意識に高いロボットとウェストビレッジの7thAvenueみたいな場所の賃貸料を考えてしまうからかもしれません。それが、もしかしたら僕が思うBanksyの考え方を犯しているのかもしれない？あまり分からないけど。。。彼をとてもリスペクトしている事は間違いありません。みんなも自分自身の目で確かめるべきです。
