OMG I love him!!! He is so funny!!! This is the best interview I've seen in a long time! And absolutely 100% true! I tell my kids this stuff all the time (though not nearly as funny as he does...hmm maybe that's why they don't listen to me...not!!).
I wrote a blog entry about some of this a few months ago, but not nearly as well as he did!
As a mother of 14 and 11yr old daughters my opinion is part of the problem is that society is making it harder and harder to prepare children for the "real world". All areas are to blame: parents, schools, sports, peers, and everywhere in between. Its so hard to try to show children that you have to work for something when: everyone gets a trophy, there are no losers, their friends get the newest gadget for no reason, and so on. This doesn't excuse parents from raising their children properly, because ultimately its our responsibility, but society needs to change in order for this to be possible. As LCK said, "we need to go back to a simpler time" and we(society) are the only ones who can make that happen. No we don't have to get rid everything we have, but there can and must be a balance. Because if not WE are in a world of trouble when this generation goes out into the "real world".
It reminds me of George Carlin, one of my favorites, he said something like, "reality is everyone can't be a winner, there are losers. When your kid is 25, do you want his boss to be the first person to teach him that when he says, 'clean out your desk, your fired, and your a f@$%in loser!!!' "

I don't sound too far off from that! Less witty though. Does that mean I'm sounding like a bitching old man? Really, I have the weirdest 'generation gap' with kids five-six years younger. I'm going to pop soon... 'oh, I know mom and dad never set any boundaries and always agreed to everything you asked but guess what buddy, they ain't here now and if I tell you that thing you just did doesn't cut it, it just means so'. But then, maybe I fit into my older colleague's definition 'crappiest generation of spoiled idiots' too.
