Jay Fung 馮允謙 Album

So… the 3 month journey of making Jay’s album has come to a close, from 16 hour days to relaxin with the family again. The album is something very different for teh HK market, we will see how it is received, so far so good though. The first single 今天開始 (Starting Today) was number 2 in the charts and they have just released the 2nd single 夜半敲門 (Knocking On My Door) has already got some great feedback. The album is the first full album the MoFo Music has produced, MoFo is me and Jun as a writing/production team and we are already getting booked up for more albums next year. The sound we make together is very unique for the region but still very commercially orientated.

Below are some links and pictures from the project, the album is scheduled to be released at the end of November so we will see how it goes, in the meantime, one of the songs we did on Jun;s album (Help Is On The Way) is up for 2 awards (Best Arrangement & Best Male Performance) at the CASH 2012 Golden Sail Awards on November 28th, finers crossed!!

Jun Kung 恭硕良 Playback’s A Bitch Album

At last!!! Jun’s album came out yesterday (June 5th), I worked with Jun on this album in between both of our busy schedules. The album is called “Playback’s A Bitch” and had 8 tracks of which I produced 7, co-wrote 7, and mixed 8.

The whole experience was great and Jun is a very talented multi-instrumentalist. He played 90% of the instruments on the album, Drums, bass, Guitair and piano.

The video is out now for the first single “Help Is On The Way”, this is the only Cantonese song on the album as Jun wanted to an English language album this time round.

So head on down to HMV and grab a copy, or for those Digi heads amongst us it will be available in iTunes shortly.

The video is not a typical video for a Canto artist and I believe that Joey did all her own styling for the MV.

Haven’t blogged much these last few months… Been busy as hell!!

I just came across this picture of Joey Yung’s (容祖兒) new MV for the song I did for her new album called Mayfly (蜉蝣)

I didn’t think they were going to do a video so glad they finally have… looking forward to seeing it soon. At least it will get sung in Karaoke now!!

Joey Yung… Something different.

Jun Kung and I have started a new production team in HK and our first client was none other then Joey Yung. The song is something very different from other Joey tracks and hopefully will be a plug track.

We had 2 days in the studio recording the track and Joey did a great job.. really stepped up to the plate as the vocals were not the usual canto style. Well done Joey.

This new production team between Jun and I is really something different for HK, I think we can really shake up the industry with our East meets West production.

Also thanks to Leo Chan at EEG who took the first leap working with this new team. I think we have a monster song on our hands and I will be very surprised if this new song doesn’t make a big splash in HK.

At the end of every session I make everyone do my signature “Poo Face”…lol!

We all had a lot of fun and I look forward to more work with Joey and future collaborations between HK’s newest production team and SE Asian artists!!

Kelvin Avon (aka Afreex) grew up in Hong Kong and started his interest in music from the young age of 6, when he started playing the trumpet. He bought his first synthesizer and drum machine when he was 12 and he hasn't looked back since. Trained at Massachusetts Communications College. Boston, USA as a Sound Engineer, Kelvin began his musical career as a Mastering Engineer in 1999 for Promo Only, a US based music promotions company.

Emerging from the UK's underground Urban music scene, Kelvin has written and produced with a variety of UK Urban artists such as Jamelia, Swiss, Cassius Henry, Legend aka Kamakazi, Maxwell D, Shola Ama and many more. He has also expanded into the mainstream market, working regularly with artists in Sweden for Warner Chappell and as well as with songwriters such as Curtis Richardson (Jennifer Lopez, Joss Stone), Celetia Martin (Groove Armada), Sandra Nordstrum (Celine Dion/Girls Aloud), Kenisha Pratt (Brandy, Toni Braxton) & Charlie Brown.

In 2005 Kelvin's production company, Chewatribe, put together the UK's biggest collaboration CD, Union Black which won an Urban Music Award 2005 for the Best Compilation Over 25 exclusive tracks featuring collaborations with artists such as Omar, Rhian Benson, Cassius Henry, Swiss (So Solid), Don-E, Sway, Shola Ama, Baby Blue, J2K, Maxwell D, Sway, Kele Le Roc and many more, produced by UK producers.

Afreex tracks are all about the club; incorporating all elements of music, from Ragga to Rock, Hip Hop to Soul, RnB to Dance. He has also worked with US artists such as P.Diddy, Mario, Erykah Badu, Nelly, Lumidee, Baby Bash, Amp Fiddler and many more. His unique blend of sound, which appeals to both the US and Europe, has caught the attention of the industry peeps on both sides of the Atlantic.

He has mixed many albums including the debut album for no.1 Russian Hip Hop outfit Banderos (Universal) and the debut single through Polydor of underground sensation & MOBO winners N-Dubz. He then went on to work with N-Dubz on their debut album “Uncle B” which sold over 500,000 copies in the UK. In 2009 Kelvin worked with N-Dubz again on their new album “Against All Odds” which reached No.5 in the UK charts and has sold over 600,000 copies to date.

Other clients Kelvin has worked for include all the major labels and many independent labels in the US, UK, Europe, and Asia. Recently, Kelvin has also worked with artists in SE Asia such as Van Ness Wu (吴建豪), Sandy Lam (林忆莲), Michael Wong (王敏德), Jun King (恭硕良), Joey Yung (容祖兒) and many more.

Broadening his scope to also include multi-media, Kelvin was also one of the Musical Directors for hip hop theatre show 'BoxBeat' in 2003 held at Sadlers Wells in London, and produced music for the renowned Swedish Hip Hop Dance Company, Bounce Streetdance Company.

In 2007 Kelvin was flown to Moscow to be the Musical Director for the European Tour of Russia’s biggest male artist, Sergey Lazarev. Recently he has also placed original music for Sony Playstation games, commercial advertisements, as well as Hollywood movies.
