Have been checking out events/screenings at the SFIAAFF the past week or so.  I did, however, miss the panel on Saturday (sorry!) due to the fun debauchery we had at the Blood Brothers after party on Friday.  That night was awesome, since so many familiar faces came out and it was like a big reunion of some sorts.  With a lot of alcohol of course. =)

Wasn't able to catch Blood Brothers beforehand, so most likely checking it out on Sunday down in SJ with some other friends.

Last night, I went to check out the Music Video Showcase since I heard it's always pretty awesome, and because they were showing our very own 24 Herbs' Superstar (directed by Kit Hui!)!

It was great, especially since I'm such an avid fan of music and tend to sit for hours watching music vids of all kinds on youtube.  Being able to watch them in theaters, particularly of artists that I don't know, was delightful.

Here's a list of the videos shown, though there were some last minute changes to the lineup so not sure if I missed anything:

    Miho Hatori- Barracuda
    MIA - Bird Flu
    Joe Metro - Blue Scholars
    Cube Juice - Bunka
    Notorious MSG - Chinatown Hustler
    Goh Nakamura - Embarcadero Blues
    Scrabbel - Emily, I
    Voxtrot - Firecracker
    Cube Juice - Golden Age
    Seriously - Irony
    PIC - Keep Up
Ming & Ping - Legends of Nothing
The Little Ones - Lovers Who Uncover
    Bambu - Pull it Back
Masia One - Return of the BGirl
    Mutya Buena - Real Girl
    24 Herbs - Superstar
    Ohbijou - The Woods
Bat for Lashes - What's a Girl To Do?
?? (have to look up and find out.. last min addition) - I-Hotel

All of the videos were extremely entertaining, some very funny.  The musical style ranged from rap to rock to electronica to hard-to-categorize.

Scrabbel's video was very witty and surprisingly complex for low budget.  Goh Nakamura's music was along the lines of Jack Johnson type music.. chill and soothing.  Goh was there in the theatre himself, not surprising since I had already heard that I missed seeing him in an intimate hotel room with a few other people on Sunday night by having to skip out on West 32nd festivities.  Darn.  PIC was not my usual type of music (I'm not a big fan of rap music in general), but I found them very talented.. they rapped but played instruments such as trumpets.. somehow very sophisticated rapping!  The other rap songs were very much political/sociological in their msgs.  The I-Hotel song was very interesting, as I actually did not have much knowledge about the I-Hotel evictions in San Francisco back in the day.  Will most definitely read up more about that!  Worthy cause for a remembrance song!  Loved the animation in Baraccuda.  Cube Juice songs were pretty awesome.  The Ming & Ping song was cool, as was the video.  Synth rock.  Love that stuff.  MIA's Bird Flu though different, was VERY catchy and the dancing in there was mesmerizing, though kinda scary at times (the little boy twisting and jerking around .. whoa).  Masia One was cool, you don't get to see much Asian girl bands outside of Asia, but I expected some more BGirl-ing in the video considering the song title.  Still very cool though.  Ohbijou was good.  Loved the song.  I might have heard of them before.  Notorious MSG's Chinatown Hustler is a VERY funny video.

My favorite video, however, which was shown last (excluding Superstar! I've seen that before many times!), was Bat for Lashes' What's a Girl To Do?  The moment the song and music video began, my first impression was, wow the singing style, the way the girl looks, the video style.. remind me of Feist.  I've yet to figure out if it's purposefully done or not, but the whole video reminded me of one of my favorite movies, Donnie Darko.  I'll have to look into that too.  Too bad they didn't have the director or anyone involved in that video at the Q&A.  The video was dark and comical.. satirical and witty.  Yet simple.

Most of these videos are on youtube.  You could look them up!  Or I can and post them here I guess, but I should get back to work.

Of course it was extremely awesome to see Superstar on screen in a theatre.  You go, guys!
