I've been discussing with my photography friend over the couple of days.

We have plans to do some portraitures but don't want it to be too casual. Looking at the high fashion style in black and white.

Now, what this would consist of is of course the model in a glam dress and normally, with expensive dresses, most people would just want to do it in a studio/controlled environment so as not to trash the dress.

But what about doing it in ...

    1. A back Alley of shops
    2. A Burnt Down House (I found one right in the middle of the city recently)
    3. At a Old school kind of cafe with peeling paints and really old furniture.

Still deciding, maybe some of you could put in some input.

Also, shot some portrait of Allan Wu a couple of months back for a local magazine, to be used for the December issue but since they have yet to release payment, I decided not to pass them the hi-res photo. Wise move or no?

;) I think if they have not pay you, you can keep the high res. Just provide them the low res.. though I have encounter clients who did not want to pay and yet playback a video that my company did WITH WATERMARK in the launch event LOL so yeah wise move ;)

Like the burn down house n school canteen idea. Sad that the model wont try out the haunted version.. It would work well with good make up!
What about city? On a busy street. Hard to make you focus on the model and get good lighting? With the model standing in the middle of the street.. Thats if DBKL havent chase you off yet la haha ... Or along the walkway of Pavillion posing..
I am in KL but I am not pretty or sexy LOL how can I assist you? :D

Alan, alot of fashion designers do the shots of back Alley of shops or places like that, so that's sort of the norm. Your idea of the burned down house and the old school cafe sound good.  I think you were wise to hold onto the high resolution  photo. Can't wait to see your pics or at least some of them if you post them on here. Good Luck.

The Burnt House isn't really that scary during the day. I wanted to do Haunted House but the model wasn't up for it.

Stormy: Problem is we've done so much park and beach photography here that it has become a boring subject, whenever some new guy want to learn to shoot outdoor, that's the first place we'd normally bring them.

That's why I'm looking at something different, also to challenge and improve on my own skills. There's still alot for me to learn. One thing I'm lucky is that there's quite a no. of friends willing to allow me to experiment with them before such similar shots are applied onto paid jobs.

How about a park or beach type setting...making it look as though your subjects just left a fancy get together to have some alone time and be free.
