早兩天我出席了一個名為「基因寶褲日」的慈善活動. 當日有醫生詳細講解甚麼是地中海貧血病和治療過程. 我對這個疾病了解了很多.

Two days ago I attended a charity event called 'Jeans for Genes Day'.  That day they held an information session about the disease called Thalassaemia and its treatment.  I learned quite a lot about this illness.

最令我感慨的是, 他們邀請兩位地貧病者講述他們治療的過程, OMG!!!! 太辛苦了!! 他們定期到醫院輸血, 每晚均要花上 10 小時注射除鐵藥 , 全身都是針痕, 平均每月花上一萬八千元!!!! 我不禁落淚.我們實在太幸福了!!!

It was quite emotional,  they brought two people afflicted with this disease to talk about their experiences,  OMG!!! so difficult!!  They have to go to the hospital regularly for blood transfusions, and every night they need to spend 10 hours taking medicine by injection,  their whole bodies were covered with needle marks.  Treatment each month costs about HK$18,000!!!!  I couldn't stop from crying,   it really is fortunate to have good health!!!

•5 月 8 日是國際地貧日

•今年地中海貧血兒童基金將舉辦一個名為「基因寶褲日」的活動，旨在為嚴重地中海貧血病人籌務經費
•只需捐助港幣 50 元，便可參加「基因寶褲日」，於 5 月 8 日穿著牛仔褲或帶上「基因寶褲日」的襟章上班或上學，身體力行，體現「展愛心，換上 Jeans，助地貧，創明天」的精神，為地貧病人籌款
2. 甚麼是地中海貧血病?
•地貧是一個基因遺傳疾病
•在香港，每 11 人便有 1 人（約 60 萬人）帶有地貧基因
•重型地貧病者需每四星期到醫院輸血以維持生命
•長期輸血會令鐵質積聚，因此地貧病者每晚均要花上 10 小時注射除鐵藥
•而注射除鐵藥會導致皮膚纖維化、骨骼變形，患者更有機會提早出現骨質疏鬆
•長時間的輸血和打除鐵針則嚴重阻礙病人的工作和社交
3. 您為何支持是次活動?
•地中海貧血病人要長期接受醫物治療，而現時的治療方法有很多副作用，嚴重影響病人的工作和社交
•我希望藉著捐出牛仔褲和出席支持是次活動，可以提高大眾對地中海貧血病的認識，讓更多人一起支持地貧病友
 4.「基因寶褲日」2008 展覽又是甚麼?
•由今日起至 5 月 1 日，時代廣場將會展出 16 條名人之牛仔褲，配合一系列介紹地中海貧血病的展板，希望提高大眾對地中海貧血病的認識
