    As many people know, 31 October in many Western cultures is celebrated as Halloween, or All Hallow's Eve, a day LOVED by dentists, for all of the candy given to children.

    However, this is NOT the only celebration of this time of year ~

    another event is the search for the GREAT PUMPKIN 

    During childhood, this was epitomized by the Charlie Brown cartoon ~

    A more modern pastime of pumpkin growers is the Championship Pumpkin Weigh-off ~
    a contest to determine the HEAVIEST pumpkin among the competitors ~
    the 2008 winner of this competition weighed in at 1,528 pounds.

    we celebrate it here differently, "all saints day" & "all soulds day" - although there those who go along with the trend of the holloween, most of the people here visit their love ones' graves, & celebrate this day with them.
