After the laid-back Hokkaido, i took a small side trip to Tokyo.  It's been 2 years since I've been in Tokyo, and I've noticed some rarity that happened!!  Some things have changed in Tokyo.  Well...not big changes, but still changes nonetheless.  But it is a rare thing in Tokyo, where shops, streets, buildings, and even sometimes people seem stagnant...frozen in time.  But somethings do remain the same, and it is always nostalgic to see them again.  Personally, I love Tokyo, but I'm sure a lot of people will say differently.  But for me, I fell in the love with the place even from the first time I visited the city almost 20 years ago as a young student.

But after such an laid back road trip driving through the countryside of Hokkaido, Tokyo was certainly a big a change as stepping into the streets of New York from a potato farm in Idaho.  We must have walked at least 30 hours in the 3 days we were in Tokyo.  Shinjuku, Harajuku, Aoyama, Shibuya...and nothing else. Tokyo is one of those cities that you can be there a lifetime and still find new and interesting things to explore about.

    The infamous Shinjuku JR Station

Hyakuka En....an institution selling fruits smacked right in the middle of Shinjuku. I paid $20 HK 20 years ago for 3 strawberries, and 20 years later, the prices hasn't really gone up much!

JR Yamanote Line that loops around the city centre connecting Shibuya, Shinjuku, Harajuku, Ikebukuro, Shinagawa, Ginza, Asakusa, Ueno etc. all the major areas of the city.

Sakuraya Camera...another institution as old as....hmmm...Japan's electronic gadgets I guess.

A fishy smelling part of town!  Tsukuji Fish Market, Tokyo!

This old lady was selling bbq scallops, Sazae snails and Tsubugai along with fresh live Uni!!

The live UNI 800 yen a piece.  The obasan selling them will crack it right open for you. Almost as fresh as coming right out of the sea!  The fried stuff on the stick is Deep fried Whale meat!

    Shell fish

A myriad of fish and seafood on sale at the market.
