  • A BeauLEEful day part 1!

I had a freakin' blast on Wed and it just got more adventurous throughout the day.  I had my heel pads ready for the whole day to support my feet. hahahah.  So I'm glad I can share this with you.  Enjoy the pics too!

I went with Mr.ASS into Shunde, China to help someone whose pretty much part of the family.  That person is Shannon Lee.  A lot of people don't know that our family is pretty close with the Lee family and it was really quite touching because we got to go visit Uncle Bruce's hometown and follow her in this journey.

So the day pretty much started like this:

Our job was to protect Shannon.  She was in a bus with the History channel crew filming a documentary for her dad.  We took this pimped out van with a race car seat included. hahaha.  We followed her, because in China, you just never know what the hell lurks out there.  The back seat was all mine!

    Our pimpin' ride.

The traffic was horrible.  It was about a 3-4 hour drive from Hong Kong into Shunde (prounounced Shun Duk)  which is also my dads hometown!!  Mr. ASS using my rival phone to watch Spiderman.  I brought along my DS lite and read some classic old comic books using the Comic book DS reader.  heh.

Halfway to Shunde.  They really ought to take away horns from cars...thats I all I freakin' heard for 2 hours on the road.  It's like people are addicted to honking horns.  Nobody seems to care and it doesn't help.  Kinda like pushing the elevator button endlessly, like the lift is going to come any faster.

At last in Shunde.  We totally lost the bus though and ended up going down this strange alley and came across this.  It was like going back in time.  What? No cinema, no game shops? PHhhhh

I didn't know if this was an old builidng or was it a new one being built.  Nothing in this area was modern at all.  The people were looking at our van like it was a batmobile or something.

Still lost, so I took a pic of this while we waited for directions.

FINALLY, we found the way.  Even though the gps didn't help much, it lead us all the way into that crazy alley.  I was suprised it was even in the system.  We just missed the press conference, so it was time for lunch.  So much for protecting Shannon in the first part of the trip. ha.

Lunch was served and chopped in front of our tables.  It was damn loud when the chef was chopping away.  Nobody could hear each other.  He slaughtered that pig good.

Food was good.  I was nervous the whole time looking at mr. ass and asking him if he had any imodium.  Last thing I wanted to do was have the runs and use a hole in the wall toilet...it happened before and it was nasty.  I survived this time!

After lunch we went back to where we were lost and finally arrived in the village of Bruce's ancestors.

Shannon arrives in her dad's hometown and was shocked to see the whole village come out to support her.

Several media were there to witness Shannon's first time ever into Shunde (mine too).

Walking through the narrow alleyways was easy since we just followed the crowd.  Gettin out on our own was like getting lost in a forest!   Can you find the Scottie?

A few minutes into the alley.

Then we all came to a stop at the Lee home.  The poor filming crew could hardly squeeze inside so we decided to wait outside...

    ...in the freakin' HEAT!

Wait...is that a yellow jumpsuit guy taking a picture??

After visiting and filming in the home, we went back out the alley and right back into a temple dedicated and named with the Lee name.

    typo??..

heh heh heh.  The banner was very thoughtful and were all over the place in the several locations we visited.

    Inside the temple.

Shannon serves tea and blesses her ancestors.

While doing that I took some snapshots along the walls.

    Now that's total dedication.

Very awesome pics along the wall.

After leaving the temple, we were taken to a nearby park.  It is still being built, but what's insane is that all of it is dedicated to Shannon's dad.  Amazing!

The entrance has two giant birds (cranes I think) towering over the park.  It was like the statues in Lord of the rings, but birds.

    This pretty much explains it.

    The map of the park.

Before we went into the park Shannon was treated to a spectacular Kung fu presentation.  Pretty wild stuff.

LOOK! It's the yellow jumpsuit guy.  He took snapshots the whole day and I thought he was just a fanatic...but when he performed he really went all out  imitating Bruce including all the yells!

Inside the park Shannon was whisked away for a private tour of the place.  I stayed behind and took these near the entrance:

It's a poem on the wall.  Anyone care to translate?

I'm not quite sure what this is, but it looks like an entire town is being constructed inside.

That rock looks really fragile.  I feel uneasy just looking at it.

    Me being a nerd...with a third arm.

Stay around for the second part!

Yeah, I got the Bruce Lee connection too... my uncle was Bruce Lee's brother's roomate in college!  And one of my aunts took cha-cha lessons from Bruce!  And I've personally seen most of Burce's movies!

that's really cool. and what's up with the honking? drives me nuts. They are addicted! Just like the HKers here in my office building, they press the "Close Door" button really hard and fast 3x like, what, the door will close 3x faster? The elevator repairmen in this city must be well-employed.

    heh....
My friend's dad fought with Bruce Lee.  You may have seen them fight together in "Way of the Dragon".  My friend's dad is Hwang In-Shik, the guy Bruce fights just before Chuck Norris.  I ain't seen Daniel Hwang for years.  Didn't even know till recently that he flew to Korea to teach English.  I've also never really had a decently sober conversation with him.  We were always kinda drunk.  lol!

"The back seat was all mine!"

And anyone who tried to join you got a Daffy Duck style, "...it's mine I tell you! It's mine! Go! Go! Go! Mine! Mine! Mine!" Yeah, I can totally see that.
