NDHA Launch

Just came back from a little celebration for the launch of the National Digital Heritage Archive. I've taken an interest in this simply because New Zealand is the leader in this, so it's kinda history in the making. It's basically turning all your collections into electronic form and keeping the electronic forms in an up-to-date format so that they can remain to be accessed 100 years into the future.

The National Library have been working on this for three years, so to finally achieve it is a pretty amazing thing. Basically, they've had to start from scratch, having no real method of collecting this metadata to build on. I love the trailer for it, but I'm not sure if I can post it up.

It's kinda cool to be around something that is going to become so huge. A few countries have already decided to implement it, so it's really cool that New Zealand have created this amazing thing that will be used all over the world.

Of course, New Zealand have done a lot of stuff that's become used worldwide, but nothing that I've been so near to. I haven't had any involvement in it, but I work with people who have, and who are the main people working on it, so it's just cool because of that.

Hopefully someday in the future I will be hearing about how most countries around the world who hold collections will be using NDHA to preserve them.
