Thought this might be of interest, been back a week and dived straight into work. This is what I do day to day in HK, go to my studio and paint. Here's the progress of one piece I've been working on, finished today. It took about 6 days working between 8-14 hours a day.
The painting 'The Radioactive Kid' is of a friend of mine, Cang Xin, an artist from Beijing. It's done in oils, on canvas and measures just under 200cm x 200cm.

i didnt know u need tht much of colours to paint a face. i thought its only brown, white, yellow, black and what else? omg, its not easy as i thought.

I love seing the process! I like the finished painting too, but it's so cool to see everything that went into it. Even though the words got painted over, it's as if they're still there and knowing that makes it all the more powerful.

Love the painting the expression on the face looks like he his about to explode . Drawn to the first picture of the set of pics even though it is unfinished it has a certain quality i like.

A full time artist, Simon Birch is a young Hong Kong artist who's made a huge impact with his energy and vision in the last few years. Apart from his critically acclaimed, dramatic paintings, he's managed to produce overwhelming installations, curated wonderful exhibitions, collaborated with leading artists, produced high profile commissioned works....the list goes on, needless to say Birch is one passionate, motivated man.

Of Armenian descent, born in Brighton in 1969, Birch began painting at a very early age, he is self taught. He has pursued a versatile career, which has included design, music and sport, but he has continued to paint throughout his life. He has been a resident in Hong Kong since 1997. Birch is also well know as a DJ and graffiti artist, his ‘Naughty Monkey’ work receiving much acclaim in the Hong Kong media. He also part owns Yumla, the most happening bar in Hong Kong.
