supposed to work on my assignment...due this friday, and tomorrow I will be too tired to work on it because i will be working 9-6 tomorrow, slightly longer than my usual hours and yet the most important factor that will make me tired is I will be bossed around by 2 people...one is my real boss..the pharmacist or the owner, one is my retail manager...not a pharmacist but because I have to put my "shop assistant" hat on tomorrow...she can be in charged of me..
let me explain why I have to work as a pharmacy assistant every wednesday..Firstly because there is one girl short in the front of shop on the day (anyway, we usually have 2 girls in the shop front, a pharmacist and myself working at the back). So my boss who is "kedekut", utilise me as a pharmacy assistant every wednesday. Secondly, he felt that I need more practice in the front of shop, dealing with customers, having good customer service, handling OTC products enquiry, learning about the drug knowledge. I cannot deny the 2nd bit because I really need more practice there. And considering I never work in pharmacy before during my student years, the learning curve for me is very deep. Now I am still catching on it, still a big gap to work on. This sounds fantastic isnt it?
But the truth is: I never manage to finish my tasks, because there are millions of tasks in the pharmacy. I do have a proper job descrīption, but there are millions of things on it. I only work 40 hours a week, and i can only finish 40 hours of work in a week. At first, this 40 hours of work (mainly tasks in the dispensary) I can manage to finish them in time. However, taking 8.5 hours out of each week means i have only got 31.5 hours in the dispensary to finish the 40 hours of work. Somemore, I dont have much assistance because most of the tasks can only be done by me, pharmacy student or the pharmacist. The pharmacy student is working just once a week, 4 hours in saturday and it is usually busy enough for her. How would she be able to help me out? My boss the pharmacist is busy, he now even has to take 1 day off every fortnight to catch up with his paperwork (i hope this means he would have a bit of spare time to help me out though).
Not being able to clear my weekly and monthly tasks on time means one thing...these are going to be carried on to the next week or month. Realising this, every wednesday that I am supposed to work as a girl, I tend to want to sneak back to the dispensary and continue with my work. My retail manager jokingly said that I am her girl, supposed to help her out. Yeah..I cant deny that I need to learn in the front of shop and yet every week I am in the same dilemma of whether or not to sneak back in. How do I find a balance of learning my things in the front of shop? I know every one expects the pharmacist to be an all-rounder. And this is my goal as well.
My boss said, the best way to learn in the shop is to grab the products and have a read. I do hope I have the time....
