well well well, i got access to my external hard drive now i'm in my room, here's part 2 report of my weekend, Friday July 20, 2007.
a day to celebrate a birth of a new online site by my roommate, www.xyznyc.org, which is aslo a day for Gomizou (Walter) to perform his final set in New York before he leave to Hong Kong. so, peeps in HK, be sure to support him if he get a chance to play a set in HK!
this is also my first time assigning someone to be the entertainer for the event. what pressure!!! first off, my roommate kinda include me late in the process, still i wanna help out. me, thinking it'll be great for Walter to get a chance to play before he leave NY, i suggested him to be one of the performer of the night, beside a DJ assigned by another friend of my roommate who suppose to be the promoter but not doing his job well. he's a slacker. but, don't know him well, so, not going to go tht path.
back to the preparation.
so get info needed from my roommate, Erik, so tht i can offer it to Walter. have dinner with him and discussed with him as well. this was where i can't decide what's right or wrong, and wondering if i'm on one side more than the other.
Erik just started this site, plan to have this party spending as less money as possible. Walter is planning and packing to leave NY, need money for this change of route in life.
me, being in the middle...trying to balance both side out was so so hard. i felt guilty charging Erik too much, but then i wanna help Walter out. arghhhh!!!! but at the end, Erik agree to pay a certain amount for Walter's set. deal! *phew*
check out the place before the show, i doubt the sound system performance. we can't try it out tht day when we visit as the place were having another party. so, we decide to try it early on Friday.
as for the flyer for the event, it was a mess. now thinking back i feel bad i have some harsh words to get some info from Erik regarding the flyer/event. i have been working with Sigu (another friend tht i help design flyer for his events), and he knew how to handle it. job was done quick. as for Erik, he will be missing so many info but want the flyer to be done ASAP. i cannot handle ASAP job. it's just insane. but it wasn't all Erik's fault. his partner didn't do his part well to get the info needed. anyway, all and all, here's the flyer.
eventually, i still found one mistake. tht's why i need Erik to know what he wants on the flyer as he's the head of the event. but he didn't. i fill in the blanks on the flyer instead, and i knew it's not complete. turns out it wasn't. missing admission fee info. *sigh*
anyway, since it was Walter's last show, i was hoping a lot of his friends will come and support. i have high hope in attendence, so does Walter.
got there early, try out speaker/sound system...some malfunction as i expected. worry...but i already have a back up plan. still, not a perfect back up plan. we went to go get our apartment speaker system. BUT when we got there...nope, can't just take the speaker to Sutra, have to take the whole set. of course i wouldn't allow tht, not to mention my roommate. so, we went back to Sutra, and accepted tht it'll work out great.
back at Sutra, tested the sound system, GREAT! it works out fine. not as bad as i thought...relief.
12 hit the clock, space still not fill...not even sighted much of Walter's close friends. but the best thing was his mom and her boyfriend drove down from Canada just to catch his performance. his mom is amazing!! :)
performance start. place, half full. Walter was wondering where were all his friends. half way through the performance, finally some familiar faces showed up. i can see Walter's energy pump up! and of course i'm happy to see ppl showing up as well. *phew* the audience really does influence one's perfromance.
me, i was busy recording video, and clicking my camera away. i got a 2GB card to upgrade my memory space. happy tht i did it. :) would be a great gift for Walter!!! hahaha!!!
i'm always amaze by how he can handle all these equipment at the same time...*blur*
show ended well. crowd was please, and most of Walter's friends came. some just manage to catch the last quarter of the live act. i was way way way relief. Erik was happy too cause the crowd was good. he got too drunk and did not present himself professionally tht night though. i told him bout it, but i don't think he take my word seriously. ah well, it's his business. i already help out as much as i can.
here is a shot of us 3, (left to right) Walter, Erik, me. :)
Erik is hoping for more event in future, and i'll be part of it. i just agree vaguely as i can't see him handle situation professionally. i just say, i'll help out. --
question, am i being an ass? shouldn't i be more supportive for a friend/roommate???
What are you being an ass about? Sometimes friends expect more just bc they're friends. Like working at warp-speed. haha. But the perfectionist in us wants things done right and nicely. I always say, 'we can't read people's minds.' I'm prolly not making any sense.
