    Brooklyn, NY - October 2007

    ----------

I played in a punk rock band when I was 14 years old. I won't out my age, but let's just say that 14 was a very long time ago. I saved up some money and bought a bass guitar and posed in front of the mirror with it every day. I was convinced that this was my best bet at eventually getting laid. We did terrible, unrecognizable covers of Joy Division songs, Sex Pistols songs (how do you possibly ruin a  Sex Pistols song? who knows, but we did), and for some reason, I remember doing a very warped, punk rock version of "Tom Sawyer" by Rush - I think it was just because the drummer knew how to play it. That band survived for about 3 months. When I realized that a bass guitar was useless without a band, I traded it in for an acoustic 6-string and taught myself how to play "Redemption Song" by Bob Marley... Acoustic guitar music was mad girly back then and I was ridiculed. Nick Drake hadn't become retro-cool yet and John Mayer didn't exist. I went from the Ramones "I wanna be sedated" to sounding like I was actually sedated.

About 2 years later, I met Jeremy, the dude in that photo up there. He's an amazingly talented singer/songwriter and I'm proud to say that I co-wrote his first song. We wrote and performed together for about two years, just two kids with acoustic guitars (and sometimes a drummer) doing the usual (van morrison, tom petty, and of the course, the two chord wonder, "jane says" by jane's addiction) until he graduated highschool and moved away to attend Harvard (and then later Princeton for post graduate). I didn't get back in touch with him until years later when he moved back to New York and I was happy (and impressed) to find that after all that ivy leaguing, he was still trying to become a rockstar. Fucking awesome.

Here's a link to his most recent group project, SummerLawns (I believe he's since been working on a solo project): http://www.myspace.com/summerlawns

go peep some  of his music. if you like radiohead, echo and the bunnymen, ours, jeff buckley, blah blah blah, you'll probably dig him..

you should have taken your acoustic guitar and sat under some tree in the park... thats where it has the most power to attract girls...  just learn how to play 'More than Words' and you're good to go!
