Yesterday I practiced with this Russian dude Eugene out in the Sunset district. He's a great piano player, but the main thing unique about him is his amazing attention span. We played two tunes over 4 hours, listening to different versions and playing along, analyzing the chords and playing in different keys. He's a fanatic for sure. He has software which will slow a recording down and keep the key the same. He's nuts for Charlie Parker and slows the recordings down, listening over and over and correcting the transcrīptions, changing notes and adding ghost notes. Today I have a lesson with Chris Poehler in Burlingame. He's going to show me some stuff on the electric bass... off to practice some more before driving down the Peninsula.
