  • Cummulative Biking Update!

I've been doing a lot of biking lately but I haven't had time to blog about it...

Three weeks ago I rode from the east side of the New Territories (Fanling) to the West Side (Kam Sheung Rd in Yuen Long).  The week after I rode back along Castle Peak Rd (near the border w/ China)  to Sheung Shui.   Then last week during the national day holiday, I rode down to Tai Wo... then this weekend down to Ma On Shan and late on Wednesday Night I went the rest of the way to Shatin... about 39 miles total! (here's the whole route courtesy of gmaps-pedometer.com)

Here's some pics from those rides:

I found out there's a bmx park in Fanling -

Unfortunately it was quite empty... i guess the BMXers were all at Church or something. :-P

On my way down Fan Kam Rd (which connects FANling and KAMsheung).... somewhere in the middle (of no where) is the border of Yuenlong:

Really not much here!  (which is a good thing in a concrete jungle like HK)

The next week on the way back from Yuen Long I took a side road in Mai Po near the border with Shenzhen (Mainland China city right across the border):

This area is full of fisheries and other random stuff...  I guess it was all marshland and then over the years they turned it into separate bodies of water.

I followed this road a bit farther than I think I was supposed to:

They have a fence here to keep illegal immigrants and smugglers out of HK...    I decided to try going to the right instead...

But I wasn't exactly sure what to do when faced w/ this sign...   I wasn't sure if they meant that the fenced off area was 'frontier closed area' or where I was already standing was 'frontier closed area' (since I technically passed through a police check point that wasn't manned..)

fearing they may be watching me on some TV cameras or something, I turned around...  next time I go back I'll try to see how close i can get to the border before the police stop me.
    :-P

ps - by the time you read this, I should be in sunny, tropical, politically unstable Thailand...   supporting my homies in 24Herbs!

Lovely view, must be great to take the time away from the hustle and bustle and get on your bike for a few hours.

That is so cool.  I love that mapping thing.  I wouldn't test the border guards.  There's probably nothing sensitive there but even if a guy is just cranky that day it could detain you a few hours.

    Have fun in Bangkok.
