HK Rail Museum...

still trying to catch up on my blogs!  another missing one from early march when my mom was visiting...    I had to go up to the New Territories to move my bike (because I haven't had a chance to ride in like 2 months and I'm afraid the police will impound it if I leave it in one place too long...)

So I found an excuse to go Taipo... to visit the Hong Kong Railway Museum (wikipedia).

I actually wanted to go for a while,  after reading Tikho's blog about it a few months back.  There's not much here actually,  just the original 1913 Taipo Market train station building and a few train engines and vintage rail cars.    The building is preserved rather nicely:





The station was built 3 years after the British finished their half of the Kowloon-Canton Railway system (hence the company's name 'KCR'),  the building is a nice combination of western and chinese architecture...   apparently they kept using this building until 1983!



One of the old locomotives on an old 1910's Fanling spur line, this one was rescued from a Philippine sugar plantation where it was sold in the 20's... 


Old Skool!  I think this logo is frickin' cool.  great design!

The most interesting part were the vintage passenger cars:

This is apparently what a 3rd class car looked like in 1911.   

Last but not least,  a throwback to the 60's...  a 1964 first class cabin:

My mom and I stopped to enjoy the retro Naugahyde ambiance.
