    In Singapore.  I flew in late last night... 

    ITs a bit like HK, but less crowded (more like the NT I suppose).  but I haven't seen much except for the inside of the conference center since this morning. Its still pretty hot outside though,  i've never been this close to the equator before...

    BUT I think I should have picked a better neighborhood for my hotel...  I am afraid to walk back there after dark...

    One of my old labmates is here at the conference too:

    I made it in time for her talk this morning.


    And I'm supposed to meet up with the head of the Cal Alumni association here tonight....

    singapore's nice... more ppl speak english (vs HK, where only central folks and taxi drivers do), i find.

    Take Care Etchy.  But I think many areas can be bad after dark. Even outside the Savoy in London, the doorman tells you to be in by 9pm!
