6/10 Movie: Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008)

Caught 'Indy 4' the other night. After Eric watched a preview last weekend and I read Olivier's blog about it, I had tempered expectations. Also I was one of those guys who was thinking that Harrison Ford was too over-the-hill to make an Indy movie as good as the last one. :-P

So when I finally watched it, I was pleasantly surprised. Not great, but not horrible. It's basically a mindless, summer action 'popcorn' movie... which I had to remind myself, the original Indy movies (at least the 3rd one) were too.

Aside from the age issues, the biggest issue I had was the fact that the story was a bit TOO over the top. with the exception of a few big finale scenes here and there in the originals, they pretty much 'real world'... ie entirely were controlled by physics, scientific reality and reasonable 'believability'.

This one unfortunately takes it a bit too far for my taste... and worse yet, it seems to be a bit selective about it (the magnetism conveniently turns on and off!?)

And you know if the 'regular' part is over the top, then the unrealistic finale is that much more so. :-P

Anyway, entertaining ride, almost as good as the third one... :-P

You know... i could've overlooked the historical inaccuracies and a few stretches... I mean, ripping a heart out of someone's chest and he's still alive... ehh... still entertaining. but dood... are you kidding me with the ending? the fridge? MARION!?!?!?!?!?

I can't wait to see this! I saw a special on TV (where else?) that said because of today's improved safety for actors, Harrison Ford did WAY more of his stunts in this movie (almost all) at age 65 than he did in the other 3 movies! Pretty impressive, I think!

Well 6/10 is not bad. I may not be looking as forward to it as I once was, but hopefully I'll enjoy it more without too many expectations.

E: actually i assumed there was a reasonable explanation, like peruvians went to mexico to join pancho villa's gang, or something like that. and mayans had a far reach...

but there was an even easier error - they had an LED countdown in that rocket sled thing... LEDs didn't become common until the 60s and 70s...

as usual, they need to do better research ;) if i understood correctly, indy said he learned quechua from pancho villa, but quechua is spoken in peru!! (villa was from north mexico!)

also, they mentioned the mayan language all the time, but in peru or the amazons??? the mayans lived in mexico and a bit of north central america (guatemala, honduras, etc...)
c'mon!!! it's off like 5000 kilometers!

anyway, funny popcorm movie, the indy elements, the russian baddies, etc... but a bit corny at times with the whole daddy-junior thing and the wifey too...ew! ;)

With some elements of the X-files =P I'd give it a 7/10. My favourite is The Temple of Doom

hehe, that is exactly what i said! saw last night too, the level of fantasy is so high and irregular.... at least the monkey king is not a human!
