I went to the ballet this afternoon. It was kind of last minute. I didn't get tickets in advance because of all the traveling i've been doing the last three weeks.  But I felt bad about missing the last show, so I had to make sure i didn't miss two in a row.

This time the show was called 'Momentum',  it was a collection of several pieces.  The first off was a piece from 'Paquita'.

For this show Jin Yao was the lead (same as the picture).  It was pretty good but a little long,  after the nth set of dancers came out to do solos, your eyes start to glaze over. :-P

There was also a pretty modern piece choreographed by Eve,  i thought it was pretty interesting but a little bit too modern for my tastes I guess (i'm used to not understanding whats going on w/ classical ballet, but when its modern and i still don't get it, i feel extra stupid). :-P

the third piece was something from Le Corsair, with two guest dancers, one was from France and was the principle from the NY ballet. the guy was from hungary...  they were both pretty good, but i didn't like the expression on the guy's face while he danced. :-P

the final number was called 'Clear'.  it was some sort of balletic response to 9/11...(read here for some explanation)   I wasn't really understanding what exactly everything represented.. there were 7 guys and a girl in this piece,  the girl was supposed to represent 'Clarity' ... played this time by the exquisite Faye Leung.  she was awesome, yet again.  Really a great performance!

because we know many of the dancers, I try to go to every one they do.  i don't get so excited by the prince and princesses, but i like it when they throw in a sword fight or two. :-P

I used to do ballet many moons ago, I'd love to see a big production but likewise I'm not sure I would completely get the gist of it all.

I've never been to a big ballet production before just a few locally produced ones.  While I tend to enjoy them, completely understanding the meaning behind some of the pieces is another thing.  =D
