Hey guys, I've delayed my high anticipated Singapore Weekend part 4 blog to share some insider info for all the loyal etchy blog supporters out there....

As some of you may know, Stephen, Olivier and Eric have been hard at work redoing the alivenotdead.com store over the past month. This means that the old, hard to navigate version of the store will soon be just a painful memory, and a newer, (hopefully) simpler to use version will take its place.

As the first part in rolling out the new store we've also added the first in what hopefully will be many item of a new category of items we're offering... VIRTUAL GOODS....   basically a purchase that only exists 'virtually' (online).

As our first step into this new area, we're offering a special profile medal -

the alivenotdead.com flame!
(Christmas flavor in this case)

Its a monthly badge that will appear on your profile thusly:

As you can guess, the design changes every month, so you'll earn a new medal each month you purchase one. And the previous months will stay on your profile.

And that's not all, you also get some recognition of your purchase of the flame outside of your own profile too. Now you get the flame icon next to your name when you leave comments elsewhere on the site:

Not too bad, right? This identifies you as a supporter of alivenotdead and helps your comments stand out.

Right now we're offering two packages - 3 months and 6 months worth.   You can check it out and purchase the flame by click here.

Since this is all very new, its still in the testing phase. Please give it a try and let us know what you think of the new store mechanism. If there's anything unclear or that doesn't work, please let me know and we'll try to fix it right away.

We are looking forward to adding more functionality to the flame in the coming months (i can't disclose it all yet!) but if your a hardcore collector, keep in mind that once a month ends, the opportunity to get that month's medal is gone, so don't wait til January 1st to jump on board! :-P

jane - as i mentioned to andy below - because of problems w/ the medal system w/ the old store we stopped awarding medals for a time, i can go back and add them for you if you send me a PM w/ the name and items...)

oh, i forgot to mention it - Chung and Scottie - artists can't get the flames (you guys got the star already!)

we may make an artist version or something similar later on...

mio - right now we don't have the ability to do gifting (giving it to other users), it only goes to the account of the person who buys it....

gifting is down the road. (maybe for your birthday in 09!) :-P

andy - the solution is to get spanish artists on the site and then translate them to english!

andy - we're revamping it a bit. One problem we had with the old store was not being able to tell exactly which user ordered an item (since paypal email and the alivenotdead.com email are usually different). So we had difficulty in awarding it!

the new store is directly tied, so now we can automatically award it as soon as the order is processed.

(note the new translator medals too btw).
