  • What a train wreck...(McCain + Palin)

You know how sometimes you like to root for the underdog?  Even hope the other side in a sports game does a good job to make your favored team have to work hard to win...  closer games are always more entertaining than blow outs...

But its looking more and more like the US Presidential race is going to be a blow-out...   When I heard McCain picked this no body from Alaska I was shaking my head (in between laughing at the mocking this decision has rightly received)

Here's the latest twist in the tragedy:

Teen daughter of GOP VP pick is pregnant

Sarah and Todd Palin issued a statement saying they are "proud of Bristol's decision to have her baby and even prouder to become grandparents."

wow, and they're proud too!  So much for the 'values' party...   i guess after Mr. Wide Stance and those closeted pervs from Florida,  this seems pretty pedestrian... but   the fact is that Palin's  resume is so thin, she was mostly running on her achievements as a mother and her appeal to social conservatives...   I guess abstinence-only education doesn't always work. :-P

    a frickin' joke...

(just for fun, imagine what they'd be saying if it was Obama's kid who was pregnant?)

How can anyone support this person being one heartbeat away from the presidency?    Is it too late to take her off the ticket?  :-P

are we talking about the potential leaders of one of the most powerful countries in the world here? mccain/palin look more like the lineup of my building's home owners association!!

they are making things too easy for obama! suspiciously easy if u will!

what i don't get is why are there still americans "thinking" who to vote to?

joanne - there's some argument to be made that its somewhat shocking to know she agreed to run for the VP job with this giant looming scandal,

...not to mention the fact that she has an 8 month old developmentally disabled baby too...

her kids are going to be in the spotlight and she's going to be too busy to spend much time with them...

The pregnancy dominated much of our news last night. I feel sorry for her daughter being thrown into the limelight.

bob - yeah but its Alaska... at the end of the day its not anything that (whether right or wrong) the average american is going to take seriously...

people will respect and admire the mayor of new york city or a senator for their accomplishments, but there's not much a 20 month governor from a state like Alaska can do to impress people she's ready for the 'big leagues'...

and as mentioned, she's got plenty of baggage developed already to go with whatever positives are... this baby daughter thing being just one.

Actually, Palin seems to have run on and carried out her campaign promises of cleaning up politics and waste in Alaska. She sold the state jet and tackled other problems left by the outgoing administration. In a way, her "thin resume" is parallel to Obama's "inexperience image". Her tackling of finance reform is akin to McCain's touted campaign finance reform. So, in the end, who's all talk? Who's actually got game? That is the question.

There's also using her power as Governor to try to get her sister's ex-hubby fired (Trooper-gate).  Then there's her hypocritical stance about abstinence when Palin herself got married while pregnant and now her high school-aged daughter is doing the same (Bristol-gate).  There's some wild speculation as to whether her fifth child is actually her grandchild, supposedly put to rest by Bristol's pregnancy (Trig-gate).  And the fact that she didn't have a passport until 1997 when she visited the Alaskan National Guard in Iraq (kind of like the Haven'tWeHadEnoughOfAnUnwordlyPres-gate).

If McCain actually knew about these things and STILL chose her, then he's outright crazy.

If he's just finding out about it all, then maybe she'll resign a la Eagleton and let the Republicans find another female/anti-abortionist/fundamentalist/abstentionist Republican (prefereanby w/o a preggers daughter to run with him.

Ha, ha, welcome to national politics Sarah.  Where they wear no gloves.

I shake my head at her, and no I don't think it's appropriate for her daughter to be thrust into the limelight about something so personal. I do think that Palin as a horrible choice means Obama, I love him, will be elected.

the whole thing is nothing but a ridiculous demontration of how the world and the US is upside down... how is it possible that a candidate choses a VP like this? ms congeniality??? to VP one of the main powers of the world?!?!

and even more incredible is to know that there are americans that still are having a hard time to vote for Obama?!  go on, let mccain continue with the billion dollar spending in wars... as long as he represents the moral values... just like the VP! argh.......

I think it's weird too - the only thing about it all that I think is positive in some way is that we have entered an age or a situation where a conservative like McCain actually felt he needed to pick a woman to WIN!!!
