It's supposed to be a long weekend but unfortunately, Canada day falls on a Tuesday this year... which means that unless I take tomorrow off, I work Monday, then get off Tuesday, and then I'm back Weds-Fri... weird eh?
Anyway, the weather is gorgeous - sunny skies of blue, 31+ degrees celsius - can't complain!
I went to an art opening with my friend on Friday for Tim Okamura I finished work and went for dinner at a local restaurant that has a 'secret garden' outdoor patio - it was beautiful and shaded so you can enjoy the outdoors but not be uncomfortably hot. The restaurant had a platter of what desserts they had for the evening so it was easier to choose - altho' so hard to just pick one! We ended up setting for a lemon custard in a phyllo shell, topped with whipped cream and raspberries.

After dinner, we headed off to the art opening - unfortunately, since it was so hot outside, the gallery was almost unbearable. I may have to go back to truly appreciate the art work since I had to leave after 15 minutes or so.
Afterwards, since the night was still young, we ended up enjoying the air conditioning @ WEM and watched 'The Forbidden Kingdom' - I really enjoyed the fight scenes!
Saturday night - hung out with a bunch of friends and enjoyed cheap bellinis on the patio - it's the best time of year to eat outside since there haven't been an influx of mosquitoes yet.. but once it starts raining more, I'll have to avoid the outdoors!
Today - I went over to my friends house to bake lamingtons... an Australian national dessert. It's basically sponge cake, dipped in chocolate and sprinkled with coconut. It's for her boyfriend's birthday party tomorrow night (which should be quite the affair as we've managed to score a fog machine, strobe lights, and a disco ball!) There will be live music as well, since my friend, her bf, and a bunch of other people are in a band!
Anyway, here's the results of 3 hours of hard work - baking the cake, cutting the cake into squares, freezing the cake, mixing the icing, and laboriously dipping and coating... phew!! At least they taste divine!
