    I went to check out the 'Vivienne Westwood: A Life in Fashion' exhibit two weekends ago. Not that I could imagine myself wearing most of these clothes, but there were some cool pieces that I liked.

    There was also a quote on the exhibit wall:
    "You have a much better life if you wear impressive clothes."

    Do you agree? It's obviously a biased statement by someone whose life revolves around fashion. Some people just don't view fashion as a priority or of importance but I wouldn't think their lives would be any worse off. There are plenty of other things in the world that enhances and makes life better, other than fashion. Well, I don't consider myself a slave to fashion as I prefer to dress casually and comfortably on most days, and I don't spend tons of money on the latest fashion and designer clothes and accessories. But I do like to dress up every so often for going out with friends and on special occasions and I have to admit that it feels good. :)

    Anyway, here are camera phone shots of some of my favorite pieces at the exhibit.

    HI HI IVY...!! yeah that was a great exhibit... i was impressed by the sheer size of it..in HK.. rare! and very generous.. that quote was a bit funny.. i agree and disagree... fashion is a pick me up antidote.. just as is great food/ drink/ travel..but those don't get people to look.. fashion does!!

    VW is wholly biased in that statement.  Nice clothes can make you look good on the outside but how you feel from the inside is what counts.

    I agree with your sentiments about fashion, it is nice to dress up sometimes and it's nice to have nice clothes but who wants to be a fashion slave and like you say, there are other things in life

    I don't like the puffed skirt, I didn't like them in the 80s and I don't like them now, not sure why

    hmm... interesting quote... but definitely for someone who is into fashion... hehee... great pics from the exhibit.. =) the style is kinda cool... but yea, not something I would wear... hahaa...

    She's got some eclectic looks there. I'm not convinced a person has a better life with clothes that impress. She's a fashion designer so I think that's the exactly the kind of thing a designer would say. lol.

    @ Thomas & Sean: They did mention a bit about the Sex Pistols in the section about her early years. I just didn't take pictures of it, since I only took a few pics of stuff I personally liked.

    @Thomas: You know, the Chinese translation of that quote makes it seem more like by "impressive", they mean clothes that people find hard to forget (or that leaves an impression)... so like you suggested, it might not just mean "expensive and trendy".

    @Stephen: I agree... I'm a very practical and frugal girl, I refuse to pay tons for designer clothes/handbags/etc. Like you, I'd much rather spend the money on traveling too... But since I'm a girl, I do like looking at pretty clothes... I just don't buy them unless it's on sale and affordable. =P

    I wholly disagree... i'd amend that statement to say:
    'You have a much better life if you stop wasting your money on fashionable clothes and start spending it on good food and travel instead.'

    I had the same reaction, what about the Sex Pistols' fashion then? Or maybe it's 'impressive' in a larger sense rather than just 'expensive and trendy'.

    I'd rather say I might pay attention to a certain style and design, rather than shiny, pricey things. Even the few designer things I own are quite subtle rather than impressive.
