The sneaker game today is very multi-faceted. I feel like there are huge holes open for companies to take advantage of new opportunities. And push new boundaries.

The Colab. コラボ。
This ain't anything new. Colabs are here and they don't seem to be going anywhere. At the end of the day, a colab should simply aim to improve an existing product and inject some passion and creativity into the process. If both parties can learn from the process, then consider it a success. Check out the new Number Nine x Converse Jack Purcell. A dope example of a good collaboration.

The Art Shoe. アートシューズ。
As a true blue sneakerhead, I think you should always wear your kicks. They're sneakers! Wear 'em!! But I understand, sometimes, people create shoes as works of art. And works of art are meant to be displayed, not used and abused. The recent Nike Coraline Dunk is an example of this. It's an incredible creation made by the W+K team for the upcoming film Coraline. The details, execution and packaging are amazing. Part of me wants to wear this on the basketball court and blow people's minds...but the saner side of me will probably just put these on my display shelf.

But in my opinion...THIS is the type of sneaker footwear companies need to be making more of. Remember TRAINERS? Designs that enhance performance? Evoke passion? Instill comfort? And look cool as hell on your feet? The Nike Twilight is a great sneaker. Period. It's not a hot colab. It's not a masterpiece of technology. It doesn't come in this season's hottest colors. In 2009, when substance really matters, it's sneakers like this that truly represent the sign of the times.
僕の考えとしては。。。これこそスニーカー、フットウェア会社がもっと作るべきです。TRAINERSを覚えていますか？パフォーマンスを向上させるデザイン？情熱を引き出す？履き心地もいい？そして履いてもかっこいい？Nike Twilightは最高のスニーカーです。文句なし。話題性のあるコラボではありません。テクノロジーの代表作でもありません。今シーズンの流行の色でもありません。中身が肝心になる２００９年は、このようなスニーカーが本当に時代を代表するものとなる。
