  • Do you think Indie films in Hong Kong has a future?

    You don't really have to ask me this question.  But I want to hear from you.  Do you think that one day indie films will be just as popular as it is in the United States.  I mean how many of you will actually go to the theatre/cinema to watch an indie film if the topic of interest attracts you.  Please let me know!

    i like watching indie films but just like what all of us here thinks, movie tickets are really getting so expensive..i'm collecting films i like..not only is it cheaper to buy dvds but it also gives me a chance to watch them over & over again..

    & yes, i watch film when the story interests me - regardless of who the actors were..but when i end up liking a particular actor's performance on that movie, that's the time i'd hunt his/her other movies..

    This time I am trying to a more violent film and so i need quite some props including fake blood. right now trying to find a way to mass produce usable fake blood.. :)  and there'll be quite some actions, also need to find some help. the films i made before are mostly drama or experimental, this time i guess i'm trying to do something totally different.

    I am making a short as we speak.  It's something different from what I am kind of used to filming.  What technical stuff are you researching on?

    I finished a short film not long ago, and now I am planning to make another one, currently doing some research on the technical issues... what about you?

    To Kenji, are you a indie filmmaker?  If so are you working on anything at the moment?

    To Dark_Justice.  I definitely agree.  I think not only are ticket prices ridiculous but as well dvd prices can be lower.  Many time we are really paying for the mass advertising.

    I rarely see indie films in theaters, although I have a lot of friends who go to watch a lot of indie films in theaters, I do watch a lot of indie films on DVD though.  Maybe it's for the reason Kenji said, movie theater ticket prices are expensive these days and I have to pick and chose which movies I'll see at a theater even when there are two movies I really want to see I sometimes have to wait for the second to come on DVD just cuz I can't afford to keep going to the theater and spending so much money.

    That's what I wanted to know too. So far it seems difficult. I dun think the subject matter is a deciding factor for the general audience, what they care are the cast and the budget, they wanna make sure the money they pay is worth it...  which is quite a sad thing for indie filmmakers..
