"Hello, Hello. I'm at a place called Vertigo"..

U2 can have it. I never want to go there again!!!

It started Sunday when the room started lurching so bad I could not stop hurling. Slept a few hours then got up and called my doc's office. The doctor on call didn't call back so I called a friend to take me to the ER while hubby took care of getting Kim and Jo to school.
Puke bucket in hand (the ride in the wheelchair made me think the nurse was spinning me like a dizzy teacup ride and she and my friend swore there was only one turn!)
The place was not too busy but I still had a long wait for the doc to look at my ears (He declared them CLEAR....remember that for later!) give me fluids and a drug to stop the vertigo then order blood tests and blood pressure readings lying, sitting and standing. Once the drug kicked in enough to stop the nausea and get me on my feet, they released me with a scrip for the drug and orders to see my doc and let him figure out the source of my vertigo. The earliest I could be seen was today, friday.

So all week I could not drive, could barely use the PC or watch tv. I reached the height of frustration when I learned (by trying it) that I could not so much as walk to the store as it made me feel really dizzy to go more than about a quarter mile.

So today the doc looks in my ears and says "What did they tell you at the ER?" I tell him they had no clue as my ears were clear and.... he interrupts. "Who was the doctor??!" Turns out my ears were SO blocked by wax that there was no way the jerk could have missed it! (Apparently this doc also misdiagnosed the daughter of one of my doc's nurses. Needless to say my doc has lodged a formal complaint against this idiot. If I had an ear lavage monday morning I might have been driving a few days later! I've always had trouble with swimmer's ear and such. There was so much in one ear that even after a washing out, it's still blocked.

I was really freaked out wondering what was causing this. If it was not wax blockage or allergies, ear infection and so on that they said it was not, then I was thinking tumor.

Man I hate that hospital. It's only five miles from my home so I have used it when needed. When I  got preg with Kim I was sent there for an ultrasound to find out why my uterus was bigger than it should have been: The tech finds a fibroid and tells me so, without explaining what that means. Then she brings in a tissue box and plops it in front of me and says the doctor will be in to talk to me! He never comes and they send me home, convinced I'm going to lose the baby!

A few months after Jo was born I had to go for a gall bladder removal. I was told to call the anethesiologist  (sp) before the surgery. I do and he asks for my height and weight. After I tell him he laughs "For that weight I thought you'd be 7 feet tall!!"
I was told the jerk was fired recently for similar comments.

I plan on (whenever possible) going the extra 20 miles to the hospital where I had Jo. It is called Park Ridge Hospital (Unity now maybe) and the people there were great. Even Sean had a better experience there when he went for a second MRI on his back. Even though I was told to always stick with the same hospital that does your first baseline mammogram, I want to take my records there from now on. I mean, if a doctor cannot even tell the difference between a clean eardrum and a wax blockage...I could do it as a Vet tech on a dog with an ear canal that was twice as long, hairy and flea bitten!
