Here's a Switch...I was Interviewed

 A little over a week ago, I got an e-mail from Richard Cooper, the publisher and editor of the two magazines I write for, Jade Screen and Screen Power, told me that a production company from Vancouver was filming a biography about Jet Li and using the cover of one of our magazines on the show. I was invited to go to Toronto and be interviewed for the show as I've reviewed a bunch of his films and written about him for Jade Screen. The show, to my surprise was for A&E/Biography! It's a switch for me as I have only ever been interviewed for a news piece about our local library and once, back in 1981 I was on David Letterman's live morning show for "Stupid Pet Tricks" 

So this past Sunday, notes in hand, I was off to Toronto! Originally I was going to make this a two day family trip and take the girls to see the Toronto Zoo the day before, but you know what they say about best laid plans..my husband had to work later than planned and he was sore to boot, plus our youngest came down with a fever and runny nose. She was in no mood to do much but sleep.

So instead, I drove up alone and made plans to hit Chinatown with a good friend of mine for lunch after the taping.

The taping went pretty well, apart from my almost constant need for water as the room was really dry and my mouth kept getting tacky. I drank at least two bottles of water!
It was a smaller room than I thought it would be. I was seated with a light rig on one side and the reflector on the other, so close I was worried about knocking them over if I gestured. We were up on the top floor which kept down the street noise but then we had to stop for jet noise. And then someone brought a crying baby out into the hallway. It seems interruptions like this would happen in the middle of a sentence whenever I was on a good roll, talking comfortably. But then we'd stop and I'd either lose the momentum or train of thought and come back sounding awkward (to my ears anyway..then again I hate the sound of my own voice when I hear it played back.) Once in a while they'd ask me to say something that would be used as a lead in for a clip or a follow up to another and the words were sometimes awkward for me, so I hope it all comes out alright.

I believe Collin Chou will be on the show as (with his ok) I shared his contact info with the producer and they contacted each other and set up an interview. I was told Jason Stratham and Rob Cohen were going to be involved as well.

It was a really interesting experience and my thanks go to Lisa Wilton and our cameraman/soundman (I'm so sorry I've forgotten his name) for making me feel very comfortable and at ease!

I believe I heard it said that the show should air and be available by October/Novmber. Then we'll see how much of me ends up on the editing room floor.
