ADVENTURE GIRLS - BABY ORANGUTANS

In my other blog you see me arriving at Orang Utan island. To get there it actually took a plane ride from Kuching to KL and from there we drove about 4 hours to Bukit Merah Resort. From the resort it was another 10 minute boat ride to the Orang Utan Island. Quite a trip, but it was definitely worth it!

Getting ready.


Talking to Dr. Sabapathy who is in charge of the Orang Utan Sanctuary. He explains that they take care of little Orangutan orphans and also baby's that are separated from their mothers due to malnutrition or sickness. At the sanctuary the baby's get treatment and from the age of 3  they get trained in basic survival skills. Around the age of 5 they are released into the jungle.

SO exciting! They let us go inside the intensive care unit!!!
We had to disinfect our hands etc. beforehand.

Sweet little Nikita... They're almost like humans... They reach out their little arms to you and everything...

Don't worry, they're not in cages...It's actually the humans who walk around in a tunnel cage so they can walk around the island without getting too close to the Orang Utans

It started raining right before we left, but our production coordinator Alvin is prepared for everything: He brought disposable ponchos!

There were heaps and heaps of gekko's, but you shouldn't kill them as they're supposed to bring luck or something.



All in all an experience I will never forgot!
